Pennant is due back at the Britannia Stadium this week when a forgettable loan deal at Wolves comes to an end.
The winger has failed to impress at Molineux, with Wolves' struggles in the Championship doing him few favours.
A spell away from Stoke was intended to help him rediscover his form and push for a permanent switch elsewhere, but he heads back to his parent club in a similar situation to when he left.
The Potters have, however, made it clear that he will not be frozen out of the first-team picture, with it possible that Pennant could figure in Saturday's Premier League clash with Chelsea.
Assistant manager Dave Kemp said: "It hasn't been the easiest of times because results haven't been great, so it doesn't sound as though he was a roaring success (at Wolves).
"I don't think he played as much as he would have liked. But he comes back a Stoke player and we take things from there."
