Marcelino Garcia Toral could be in line to become the next coach of Valencia with the Racing Santander boss revealing Los Che have been in touch his agent.
Marcelino is one of La Liga's most promising up-and-coming coaches and a number of big clubs have been linked with the 42-year-old, who has proved a huge success at Recreativo Huelva and Racing over the last three seasons.
One of the clubs that have been touted as a possible destination for Marcelino is Valencia, who this week fired Ronald Koeman, and the former Sporting Gijon boss claims there have been discussions with the east coast side.
"There is contact from my representative with Valencia, as there was with others, but there is nothing more. There is nothing signed. If there was something then I would say so," Marcelino said in quotes reported by AS.
"There was contact more than a month ago, but no agreement."
Marcelino, who has led Racing up to their current position of fifth during his first season in charge having earned previous club Recreativo promotion and an eighth-placed finish in La Liga during the last two campaigns, insists his current club have been kept in the loop throughout.
"I'm not going to do anything behind their back. I have a lot of trust with the president," he added.
"I have a very good relationship with the directors and I would never harm their interests. What I am not going to do is enter into an auction.
"Money is a factor for many involved in an agreement, although it is not definitive.
"I could have taken advantage of the current situation at Racing, but you need to consider more things. This profession takes you to various places and opportunities arise."
Marcelino insists this does not mean he is definitely saying goodbye to Racing, though.
"No no, I know what I am going to do - I have already talked with Racing and, if there are negotiations or anything with another club, they will know of it."
