Real Madrid wing-back Royston Drenthe was involved in a car accident in the early hours of Monday morning but escaped injury.

Drenthe's Audi Q7 crashed with a police car after making a wrong turn on the Madrid ring road.

The Dutchman, who moved to the Bernabeu in a 14 million euro (£9.5m) deal from Feyenoord earlier this month, was accompanied by his girlfriend and two friends.

The 20-year-old passed a breathalyser but the policeman was treated for whiplash.
