Sevilla's bid to make 2007 the most successful year in their history begins with a tough trip to Real Zaragoza on Saturday as the Primera Liga resumes after its winter break.
This Sevilla team are already guaranteed to go down in club folklore after winning the UEFA Cup last year - the Andalusian side's first European trophy and only their fifth piece of major silverware ever.
Sevilla followed that up with victory over Barcelona to win the UEFA Super Cup in August, and it seems inevitable that more titles will soon find their way into the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan trophy cabinet with Juande Ramos' in-form side currently in contention on three fronts.
But while claiming both the UEFA Cup and Copa del Rey would help make it the most profitable single campaign in Sevilla's history, it is winning the Primera Liga that will be at the top of the club's wish-list.
Sevilla have only been champions of Spain once before - back in 1945/46 - but they are on course to match that achievement this year.
A 4-0 thrashing of Deportivo La Coruna saw Sevilla enter the winter break three points clear at the summit and they can extend that to six points against Zaragoza on Saturday, with nearest challengers Barcelona and Real Madrid playing on Sunday.
Sevilla striker Frederic Kanoute, who leads the league's scoring charts with 14 goals, admits it has been a fairytale few months for him and his team-mates, but is more than aware they cannot afford to rest on their laurels.
"Until now it has been the best year, but I am not going to settle for that," he said on his club's website.
"To have half a good year does not interest me. I want the next six months to be the same or better. We are only halfway."
Sevilla could hardly have chosen a tougher game to begin the new year though, with Zaragoza in fifth place in the standings.
Zaragoza also boast a decent record at their Romareda stadium this season, although their run of five wins and a draw from their opening six home games was tempered by back-to-back defeats to Osasuna and Valencia in the run-up to Christmas.
Kanoute added: "To start the year well it is important to take confidence from the first game, which means winning against a difficult opponent."
The match will pit two of La Liga's leading scorers against each other with Diego Milito having netted 11 times for Zaragoza, but Kanoute said of that head-to-head clash: "I am not thinking about that, only about winning the game."
Sevilla goalkeeper Andres Palop has been included in a 19-man squad for the trip north, although he was a doubt on Thursday with a leg injury and coach Ramos has named three keepers as a precaution.
Missing out though are Kepa Blanco, Fernando Sales, Aitor Ocio and Duda.
For Zaragoza, Cesar Jimenez has been laid low with a knee injury for which he underwent arthroscopic surgery on Thursday.
