Barcelona striker Samuel Eto'o insists "the best is yet to come" after proving to new coach Pep Guardiola that he is deserving of a future at the Nou Camp.
Eto'o was one of three high-profile Barca players who were told earlier this summer they would be allowed to leave the club, the others being Ronaldinho and Deco.
Ronaldinho joined AC Milan and Deco moved to Chelsea, but Eto'o remained at Barca and, after impressing in pre-season, Guardiola opted to keep him at the Catalan giants.
Less than 24 hours later the striker celebrated the decision by scoring two goals in his side's 4-0 victory over Wisla Krakow in the first leg of their Champions League qualifier.
"The best is yet to come," Eto'o said. "You have to look to the future always.
"The past is already history and it's not worth anyone remembering it.
"Everything's now forgotten, what's most important is to live the future."
Eto'o, who has been a prolific goalscorer since joining Barca in 2004 from Real Mallorca, was linked with a number of clubs this summer after being told he could go.
But the 27-year-old kept his counsel, knuckled down in training and has been rewarded for his hard work.
"I have never seen myself outside Barcelona because I have always been a Barca player," continued Eto'o. "I have two more years on my contract.
"I was always a Barcelona player, nothing changed during those two months."
Guardiola heralded in an era of change when he replaced Frank Rijkaard on the Barca bench following a second successive trophyless season.
And, now assured of his place in the team, Eto'o claims he will fight to make sure the Barca revolution is a success.
"I will continue as always, because at 27, Eto'o will always continue being Eto'o," he added. "All that I want now is to be able to enjoy playing football and return to winning with this team.
"If God wills it and we work hard we can do very well and success will return. We are all going to work for that.
"If we continue working with the desire and the strength that we have been showing until now we will give great happiness to the Barca fans.
"Everything is possible if we are together and have the desire that we demonstrated on Wednesday."
