Swedish football chiefs are unable to guarantee that coach Lars Lagerback will remain in his post following the World Cup.
Since taking the reins in 2000, Lagerback has qualified the Swedes for every major tournament but Swedish Football Federation president Lars-Ake Lagrell admits that his fate will be linked to how the team performs in Germany.
Lagrell told Expressen newspaper: "After a World Cup, two out of three teams change their managers because expectations are too unrealistic.
"We think Lagerback will also coach us after the World Cup but at the same time we know that the fans and media can give us a situation which would mean we would have to reconsider."
Lagrell also pointed out that former Sweden boss Olle Nordin was sacked after the 1990 World Cup even though he had been given a new deal before the tournament.
Lagrell said: "We had an agreement with Nordin in February that he would stay after the World Cup but the results meant that there was no chance that he could stay."
Lagerback is under contract until 2008.
