Lazio's run without a Serie A win continued as the Rome side allowed fellow strugglers Siena to come from behind and claim a 1-1 draw.

Lazio, without a win in the league since August 30, took the lead after only eight minutes but were pegged back in the first half by Serie A's bottom side.

Stefano Mauri gave the visitors the lead but Massimo Maccarone earned his side a share of the points just after the half-hour.

The draw meant Lazio remained in 15th place in the table and without a victory in nine league outings and also provided new Siena coach Marco Baroni with his first point since taking charge in midweek.

Siena had sacked Marco Giampaolo after the defeat at Bologna on Wednesday, which was their seventh of the season.

The home side had the first opening of the game from a throw-in from which Mato Jajalo had a shot but it was kept out by defender Sebastiano Siviglia at the expense of a corner.

But Lazio went ahead just eight minutes into the game as Stefano Mauri met Pasquale Foggia's far-post cross with a header.

Lazio went close to a second goal three minutes later and again Foggia was involved in the build-up.

The forward beat Cristiano Del Grosso before setting up Julio Cruz but the Argentinian's ambitious attempt at a backheel from inside the six-yard box sent the ball wide of the goal.

Following a quiet period in the game Maccarone brought proceedings to life with the equaliser.

Maccarone was given too much space by Siviglia and was able to shoot low across goal to bring his side level.

Lazio goalkeeper Fernando Muslera had a let-off when he was shown a red card after bringing down Maccarone when the striker was through on goal.

Siviglia's mistake had allowed Maccarone to go clear and he was stopped by Muslera, who was shown a red card by the referee - only for the official to change his mind after consulting with one of his assistants.

Cruz thought he had put Lazio back in the lead when he headed in from a Foggia cross two minutes into first-half injury time, but the goal was ruled out for offside.

Six minutes after the restart Jajalo played in Ferreira Reginaldo whose well-hit shot was deflected wide for a corner by Roberto Baronio.

Jajalo wasted a good chance for Siena after fine skill by Albin Ekdal set up the chance but the final shot was off target.

Maccarone went close to his and his side's second goal when he turned and shot across goal but his effort beat both Muslera and the outside of the post.

Abdelkader Ghezzal was denied by the woodwork when he fired in an instinctive shot as the ball was deflected onto the post by Lazio's Stefan Radu.

With 12 minutes remaining Lazio striker Mauro Zarate was denied by a great save from Gianluca Curci.

The Argentinian did well to control a cross from Tommaso Rocchi before seeing his shot kept out by Curci.
