Filippo Inzaghi is making a strong case for a place in Italy's Euro 2008 squad after scoring yet again for AC Milan in a 2-1 win over Internazionale.
Inzaghi, a member of the Azzurri's World Cup winning squad in 2006, has not been a regular in Roberto Donadoni's national team because of injuries.
But the veteran forward is fit again and in excellent form, as he demonstrated on Sunday when notching his ninth goal in the last five games.
That incredible run is a personal best for Inzaghi, who spoke about his recent performances.
"I have to thank Mother Nature for giving me the ability," said Inzaghi.
"We are human and we cannot always score every Sunday but having the likes of Kaka and Clarence Seedorf alongside me makes my job easier."
Seedorf delivered a perfect cross for Inzaghi on the stroke of half-time only for the striker to head narrowly wide.
But when Kaka made a terrific run to the by-line and crossed for Inzaghi early in the second half, the striker headed the ball past Julio Cesar in the Inter goal.
"We have been able to score so many goals of late due to our great understanding of each other," admitted Kaka.
The 34-year-old Inzaghi is still hoping to represent his country again with Italy among the favourites to win this summer in Austria and Switzerland.
"I really hope to be able to go," said Inzaghi.
"I have not been someone that has not been in the national team frame for two years. But I have always been there.
"Donadoni will make his choice and if he calls me, I will be happy."
