Wesley Sneijder and Klaas-Jan Huntelaar were on target for Holland as they boosted their Euro 2008 qualification hopes against Slovenia.

Things did not all go the hosts way however, as Marco van Basten saw three players leave the field injured.

Robin van Persie wasted the first chance of the game on seven minutes when he shot wide from the edge of the penalty box.

The home side were dominating and went ahead after 14 minutes when Sneijder fired home Huntelaar's pass from 12 yards.

Sneijder almost doubled his tally in the 23rd minute but his left-foot shot came back off the post.

The visitors had their first chance a minute later when Maarten Stekelenburg, deputising for the injured Edwin van der Saar, saved well from Branko Ilic.

Arjen Robben was again left out by Van Basten but he got his chance after 27 minutes when Rafael van der Vaart was forced to go off injured.

Clarence Seedorf could have added a second goal for the Dutch but he skewed his shot wide from 12 yards on 38 minutes.

Holland continued to dominate after the break and they came close to a second in the 53rd minute when Robben crossed for Huntelaar, only for the Ajax striker to see his effort blocked by Mitja Morec.

The hosts suffered a double injury setback when Arsenal forward Van Persie had to be replaced by Andre Ooijer and three minutes later Robben was forced off with Ryan Babel filling his role.

Sneijder had a free-kick well saved by Samir Handanovic in the 70th minute after the Real Madrid midfielder had been brought down by Miso Brecko.

Slovenia coach Matjaz Kek brought on Bojan Jokic and Zlatan Ljubijankic to try and find an equaliser, but it was Holland who put the game beyond doubt when Huntelaar converted Seedorf's cross from 12 yards with two minutes remaining.
