Ajax have described reports that the club will dismiss coach Danny Blind at the end of the season as "regrettable".
Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf reported on Wednesday that Blind would be shown the door at the Amsterdam ArenA after the club completes its Champions League play-off campaign and plays in the Gatorade Cup final.
The newspaper speculates he could even leave as soon as Wednesday night depending on the outcome of the play-off game against FC Groningen.
But in a statement on the club website www.ajax.nl, the club says it "regrets the speculation in the press, which is of no interest to the club."
It continues: "Ajax will evaluate its technical staff after the end of the season. Before then, Ajax will say nothing at all about it."
Blind has been under pressure all season as Ajax stuttered to fourth place in the Eredivisie in one of the most disappointing seasons in the club's recent history.
Blind has criticised the club for failing to back him, but technical director Martin van Geel has been unmoved by his complaints.
"I know that Danny finds it hard that the board or management has not spoken of their trust in him for next season," he told AD Sportwereld.
"But I must say this (his complaints) make no difference to our opinion.
"So I will not say today that Blind will be our coach next season too."
