Werder Bremen director of sport Klaus Allofs remains convinced that striker Miroslav Klose will stay with the club despite interest from Bayern Munich and Lyon.
The Germany international has given Bayern his word that he will join them in 2008 at the latest when his contract in Bremen expires.
However, the Bavarians are keen to sign him immediately, while French champions Lyon are also thought to be keen on the 29-year-old.
Allofs though believes their efforts are wasted and is looking forward to seeing Klose in a Bremen shirt for one last season.
"He plays a central role here," he told Kicker magazine.
Bayern have made an official bid of £6.8million for Klose, while Lyon are reported to have offered slightly more with midfielder Alou Diarra as a possible makeweight in a deal.
However, Allofs has not heard anything from Bayern for nearly a fortnight now, while their Bundesliga rivals do not appear keen on entering a bidding war for the player.
"Bremen have had an offer from us for a while, and it is a fair one," said Bayern general manager Uli Hoeness.
