Stefan Reisinger scored two minutes into injury time to give Freiburg a 2-1 victory at Bochum and snap a four-game losing streak.
Heiko Butscher opened the scoring for the visitors after 23 minutes and Diego Klimowicz equalised in the 65th minute.
But Reisinger came through in extra time with the winner.
Freiburg had lost their last four matches and scored just once in their last three games, while Bochum could have used the points in coach Heiko Herrlich's home debut as they have now lost four in a row.
Both sides struggled to come up with chances in the early going before Freiburg grabbed the lead after 24 minutes.
Bundesliga debutant Daniel Caligiuri sent a ball into the box where Butscher deflected the ball past Bochum goalkeeper Philipp Heerwagen.
Freiburg remained on top and nearly doubled their lead 12 minutes later but Heerwagen just managed to keep out Julian Schuster's shot.
Freiburg kept up the pressure two minutes into the second half with Dennis Grote stopping Butscher's shot on the line and then Du-Ri Cha blasting the rebound over the crossbar from five yards.
The visitors went close again after 64 minutes but Reisinger's blast from 18 yards went just inches over the crossbar.
Bochum proved more effective in attack and equalised a minute later as Zlatko Dedic's cross from the left side was headed in by Klimowicz.
Bochum had the ball in the net again with 15 minutes to play with Klimowicz heading home after Stanislav Sestak's shot was blocked, but Klimowicz was ruled offside.
And Freiburg grabbed the winner two minutes into injury time on a counter-attack. Schuster fed Reisinger for a long run before the striker beat Heerwagen with a shot to the right corner.
