Schalke goalkeeper Manuel Neuer denied intentionally elbowing Dortmund's Kevin Grosskreutz in a fiery aftermath to the 134th Revier derby on Saturday.
Grosskreutz and his Dortmund team mates were incensed with the Schalke goalkeeper for his over-the-top celebrations after Schalke won the game 1-0 and accused him of provoking the home fans by celebrating in front of them.
On his way to the right end of the Westfalen Stadion, where the Schalke fans were gathered, he is alleged to have swung an elbow into Grosskreutz's face, but the Germany international said such claims were made purely because Dortmund did not take losing very well.
"He must have been talking about another Manuel Neuer," he said, claiming he had been "peppered by missiles" from the Dortmund fans "throughout the second half."
No cameras inside the stadium picked up any sign of an elbow.
Neuer had earlier stood out for the right reasons by keeping the Royal Blues in the game with a string of sensational saves.
The win lifted Schalke up to third in the table, but more importantly for their fans at least, it gave them victory in arguably the most emotional derby in German football.
And Magath defended his players for celebrating their goal in front of the Dortmund fans.
"The goal happened at that end of the field so where else should they celebrate?" he asked.
"I don't think they were being provocative. They could have run all the way to the other end of the field, but then they get into trouble with the referee."
Nevertheless, Magath said he would have words with his players for taking their celebrations a bit too far at the conclusion of the match.
"After a goal, it is fine, but after the game, to celebrate in front of the opponents' fans is not right," he said. "We will have to talk about that."
For the second time in a week, it was Magath himself who was called for the final bow in front of the Schalke fans as the rest of the Westfalen Stadion had been deserted.
And later in the evening, Magath said the words that all the Royal Blues' fans have been wanting to hear from their new manager.
"It is our aim to win the league title," he said on ZDF television.
