Andriy Voronin could make his first appearance for Hertha Berlin on Saturday when the club hosts neighbours Wolfsburg.
The 29-year-old has only taken part in one training session since joining from Liverpool as he has been away on international duty with Ukraine.
However, Hertha skipper Arne Friedrich does not believe this will be a problem.
"Even with only one training he will be able to help us," Friedrich said. "He is an experienced professional who has played many times in the Bundesliga."
Voronin himself is relishing a new challenge.
"I am excited about playing for Hertha," he said after his arrival on Thursday. "I hope we will reach a place in the UEFA Cup."
Amine Chermiti, who is out for at least three months following a knee injury, and Lennart Hartmann (groin) will be missing for the hosts, while Jan Simunek (flu) is unavailable for selection for the Wolves.
Felix Magaths team will be looking to halt a five-game losing streak in the capital.
"Just like us, Berlin are seeking a place in European competition, so this is a very important match," the Wolfsburg coach said. "We need to keep a direct rival at bay."
Magath has yet to decide whether he will field skipper Josue, with the Brazil international only rejoining his team-mates on Friday afternoon following the recent World Cup qualifiers.
"He will be exhausted from a long flight," Magath added. "His appearance will depend on how he feels. But thanks to his individual class he always gives us a boost."
