Eintracht Frankfurt coach Friedhelm Funkel admitted he could have no complaints as watching his side slip to a 2-0 defeat to Hertha Berlin.
Raffael and Patrick Ebert were on target on Sunday to give Hertha their first opening-day win since 1999.
Only two points separated the two sides in the Bundesliga table at the end of last season, but on Sunday there was a gulf in class as the visitors coasted to a deserved win.
Funkel told Hertha's official website, www.herthabsc.de: "We deserved to lose. We did not play well. Hertha were superior in all areas.
"In defence they were very good and were dangerous on the counter. We did not get into the match at all. The win for Hertha was fully warranted."
Ebert revealed his aim was to increase his goals tally from midfield this term and was pleased by his understanding with striker Marko Pantelic.
He added: "My targets are more goals and more assists. The assist from Pantelic (for his goal). We understand each other well. And it can continue like that."
