Lens administrative director Francis Collado believes the French league's decision to ban Paris St Germain from next season's Coupe de la Ligue was the right one.
PSG were banned by the league's disciplinary commission on Wednesday after their 2-1 win over Lens in the final in March was overshadowed by a racist banner unfurled by the capital club's supporters for around five minutes in the second half of the match.
"It was the most suitable solution," Collado told French sports daily L'equipe. "I was sure that it was this decision that would be taken.
"I think the directors of PSG and their supporters should be relieved.
"Are Lens satisfied? You can interpret it as you wish."
The banner read: "Paedophiles, unemployed, inbreeding, welcome to the North".
The message hijacked the name of a film which is currently breaking box office records in France, called 'Welcome to the North', and was aimed directly at the people of Lens.
PSG have said it would appeal the sentence, even thought it might have been worse for the Parisians as the relegation-threatened club faced the possibility of being docked points.
Bastia have slammed the decision after they were docked two points on April 18 for a similar incident.
The Ligue 2 side's supporters had shown a racist banner on February 22 in their match against Saint-Seurin.
"I knew about the decision to be given to PSG because they warned me," Pierre-Paul Antonetti, president of the board of directors at Bastia, told Radio Monte Carlo.
"It's a charade. At some point you have to take off your masks and stop clowning around.
"It hasn't made me smile at all because what happened to us wrote off our season.
"Whether you're rich or poor, you're judged in a certain way.
"Fine, take off points when supporters behave stupidly, but do that to everyone.
"Unfortunately it's only for Bastia."
