Lille captain Rio Mavuba hopes to maintain his unbeaten record against former side Bordeaux when the two clubs clash in Ligue 1 on Sunday.

Mavuba played for Bordeaux from 2003 until July 2007, when he signed a five-year deal with Spanish side Villarreal.

The 25-year-old failed to settle in Spain however and made only a handful of appearances before joining Lille on loan in January 2008.

At the end of the season he made the move permanent and since then Lille have not lost to the current Ligue 1 champions.

"It is true that, for me, everything has gone pretty well against Bordeaux since my arrival in Lille," Mavuba told the club's official website.

"We have won once and drawn twice. Let's hope it lasts."

However, Mavuba knows his side will be in for a tough game with Bordeaux in excellent shape, both domestically and in Europe.

"It is a complicated encounter against the best French team of the moment," he added. "In the league and Champions League Bordeaux are strong.

"In their game, their regularity and efficiency, we feel that Les Girondins have reached a plateau this season. From our point of view, we need to react after a setback in Italy (losing 3-2 at Genoa to an injury-time winner in the Europa League)."

Asked if fatigue could be an issue following the midweek game, Mavuba added: "Possibly, but Bordeaux's squad seems large enough to bring two competitive teams."

Ligue 1 leaders Bordeaux can safely turn their attention back to domestic action having already sealed their place in the knockout stages of the Champions League.

The midweek win away to German giants Bayern Munich ensured Laurent Blanc's side advanced from Group A with two games to spare.
