Ireneusz Jelen scored two goals as Auxerre twice came from behind to claim a late win over Lille in Ligue 1.

Jelen cancelled out Gervinho's 26th-minute opener 10 minutes later and levelled again 12 minutes from time after Pierre-Alain Frau had restored the visitors' lead.

And Daniel Niculae put Auxerre ahead for the first time in the match in the 82nd minute to leave Lille languishing towards the bottom of the table.

The visitors have struggled to repeat their superb Europa League form on the domestic stage, but started the brighter today, Florent Balmont shooting off target in the 16th minute after the ball had broken to him.

Eden Hazard then whipped in a cross after good pressing from Yohan Cabaye, but Frau, having risen above Adama Coulibaly, could only head the ball over Olivier Sorin's crossbar.

Lille only had to wait five more minutes for the opening goal.

Goalkeeper Ludovic Butelle's long ball upfield found Frau on the right side.

The striker turned and played a perfect pass to Gervinho inside the area and the Ivorian finished the move off with a glorious half volley across Sorin into the far corner.

Auxerre were soon level, though, as Valter Birsa's left-wing cross was met at the far post by Coulibaly, who headed the ball back for Jelen to fire home the equaliser.

Lille went back in front in the 40th minute, Frau taking the ball off Stephane Grichting, playing a neat one-two with Gervinho and side-footing past Sorin.

But the visitors' front two, who had been so impressive in the first half, were largely anonymous in the second as Auxerre came back strongly.

On the hour mark, Jelen saw a shot blocked by Adil Rami and Benoit Pedretti's follow-up attempt from outside the area was superbly saved by Lille keeper Ludovic Butelle.

But Auxerre did level for a second time in the 78th minute, captain Dennis Oliech releasing Jelen who slid the ball between Butelle's legs.

And the visitors saw even a point slip from their grasp as Niculae grabbed the winner four minutes later.

Aurelien Capoue picked the ball up on the left and feigned to shoot, instead sending in a cross which the Romanian headed past Butelle from around the penalty spot.
