Out-going Paris St Germain coach Paul Le Guen ended his stay at the capital club with disappointment as they missed out on a Europa League spot by one goal.
PSG started the game too cautiously, and although they stepped up a gear in the second half and bombarded the Monaco goal it was too little too late.
The result leaves them level on points with Toulouse and Lille but sees them end the season in sixth, behind both teams on goal difference, which differs by just one goal from Les Dogues' tally.
It means that Antoine Kombouare, who was confirmed as Le Guen's replacement yesterday, will not steer the team in Europe next campaign.
Monaco finish the season in 11th.
The first half was a dull affair and Monaco had the best of the few chances.
Jerko Leko tried his luck in the 15th minute when he spotted PSG goalkeeper Mickael Landreau too far off his line but he fired his effort narrowly over the crossbar.
Landreau pulled off a fantastic save in the 34th minute to deny Pablo Pino as PSG's dreams of Europe looked ever more perilous.
The hosts' only sight of goal before the break came six minutes from the interval when Peguy Luyindula released Ludovic Giuly, but Monaco goalkeeper Stephane Ruffier snatched the ball off him before he could unleash a shot.
PSG almost shot themselves in the foot on the hour mark when Sammy Traore deflected Pino's cross onto the right upright with Landreau beaten.
The hosts desperately sought the winner and almost got a late goal but Ruffier did well to keep out Clement Chantome's free-kick before Sylvain Armand crashed his effort off the crossbar in stoppage time.
