St Etienne ended a run of three defeats in Ligue 1 and capped off a good week for the club with a well-deserved win over Paris St Germain on Sunday.
Mouhamadou Dabo scored the only goal of the game to end Les Verts' poor domestic run after 13 minutes, but the home team could have added to their tally against a PSG side who slipped to their first defeat since the opening day of the season.
The win completes a good seven days for Laurent Roussey's side, who marked their return to European football after a 26-year absence with a 2-1 win over Hapoel Tel Aviv in the UEFA Cup on Thursday.
While the two sides came into the clash at opposite end of the league table it was the side from the relegation places who started the brightest, and who led from the first attack of the game.
Dabo held on to the ball under pressure from Ludovic Giuly, and with seemingly no options to pass to the France Under-21 right back decided to shoot and from 35 yards beat Mickael Landreau in the PSG goal with a thunderbolt.
The capital club failed to respond and St Etienne could have been 2-0 ahead by half-time when Araujo Ilan hit the post after 26 minutes with Landreau rooted to the spot.
On the hour mark Bafetimbi Gomis shaved the post with a shot following some good control as the hosts continued to look the most likely side to score next.
But PSG finally threatened an equaliser with 13 minutes left when Guillaume Hoarau was set free in front of keeper Jody Viviani, but despite waiting all game for a chance the forward could only send his shot wide of the post.
