The goal earned his side a vital away win in the first leg of their
all-Spanish Intertoto Cup final against Villarreal.
Gerardo, a former Villarreal favourite, curled the ball home from the edge of
the area in the eighth minute, completely wrong-footing Villarreal keeper Lopez
Vallejo.
The win was no more than Malaga deserved as the side, who have never failed to
beat Villarreal, completely dominated the first half and could have taken a
bigger lead had Raul Iznata and Dario Silva had better luck in front of goal.
