Gillingham manager Mark Stimson faces an anxious wait to discover if Scott Vernon's loan spell at the club has been ended by an ankle injury.
The Colchester striker suffered the setback making his debut for the Gills against MK Dons on Saturday. He had to be substituted just 41 minutes into his month-long stay and left stadium:mk on crutches.
Stimson told BBC Radio Kent: "It's too swollen, it would take three or four days to assess that. He left on crutches so let's see what happens during the week.
"After working with Scott Vernon for two days and looking at the start of Saturday's game, it looked like he could be a big plus for us.
"But we just have to get on with it, brush ourselves down and come into work looking forward to the biggest game of the season against Charlton at the weekend."
