Colchester caretaker boss Kit Symons insists the speculation surrounding the the manager's job will not distract him ahead of his first game.
Symons, who takes the U's to Tranmere on Friday night following Geraint Williams' departure on Monday, has thrown his hat into the ring for the permanent role.
The former Crystal Palace and Portsmouth defender has the chance to stake his claim over the next couple of weeks, but he is mindful that names such as Billy Davies, Steve Lomas and ex-Us boss Phil Parkinson are also being linked with the hot-seat.
"It's a plum job and I am not surprised there have been some big names linked to it along the way," he said.
"It's a club that has plenty to offer on and off the pitch and has a forward-thinking, progressive chairman.
"I've got a chance to stake my claim and I've been fortunate enough to be a caretaker manager before, so I knew what I was letting myself in for when I agreed to hold the fort over the next couple of weeks."
