Burnley manager Brian Laws is convinced the club can stay up because of the attacking options at his disposal.

David Nugent's sixth goal since arriving on loan from Portsmouth secured a 1-1 draw against Stoke at Turf Moor.

The striker got on the end of a superb cross from partner Martin Paterson in the 52nd minute to head home.

Burnley dominated the second half but had to settle for a point after Tuncay opened the scoring for Stoke.

It means that while the Clarets move above Hull they remain in the relegation zone.

Next up are fellow strugglers Wolves at home on Saturday and Laws is quietly confident they can get out of trouble.

Striker Steven Fletcher could be fit for that match as he recovers from a broken hand while Laws can also call on additional forward players in Steven Thompson and Robbie Blake.

Laws said: "Nugent's in good form as is Paterson. That gives you great belief. We have goals in us. We just have to keep it tight at the back.

"Nugent's goal was terrific, it was great ball in by Paterson. It set the tone and I am disappointed we didn't go on and win the game.

"Everyone expects Burnley not to be in the Premier League next year but we believe it.

"I will take a lot of things out of the game particularly the second half performance. They bullied us in the first half.

"The players could have felt sorry for themselves but responded magnificently."

Stoke manager Tony Pulis could afford a wry smile after Burnley's attempts to curb the threat of Rory Delap's long throws came unstuck.

The Clarets moved the advertising hoardings closer to the pitch at in the hope of taking the edge of the midfielder's missiles.

However the ploy failed with Delap launching the ball into the area for Mamdy Sidibe to flick on and Tuncay to head past goalkeeper Brian Jensen.

Pulis said: "We noticed what they had done as soon as we came out. We get on with it, it is their club, it's their ground.

"They have to do what they have to do. You take it and get on with it. I don't care where a goal comes from. It is always satisfying scoring.

"Because he was a javelin thrower as well, Rory has that technique obviously down to a treat."
