Unbeaten FC Twente will aim to consolidate their position as Eredivisie leaders this weekend in the final round of fixtures before the winter break.

The league leaders travel to FC Utrecht on Sunday with a two-point lead from second-placed PSV Eindhoven, but their 12-match winning run is under threat.

Fifth-placed Utrecht will prove difficult opposition, having beaten third-placed Ajax 2-0 earlier this month as part of a four-match unbeaten run.

Utrecht have been unable to claim the full rewards for their efforts so far this term, with six draws in their opening 17 games, including a 0-0 stalemate with second-placed PSV Eindhoven.

Twente won September's meeting 3-2 courtesy of Bryan Ruiz's last-gasp strike - a result which sparked their current run - and will need victory to be certain of ending 2009 at the top of the table.

Steve McClaren's men could be overhauled by PSV, who travel to Roda JC on Sunday.

PSV are lurking dangerously and ready to take advantage of any Twente slip up.

The Eindhoven giants have won eight successive matches, including last weekend's 1-0 defeat of AZ Alkmaar, and celebrated their progression from Europa League Group K in midweek with a 2-0 midweek win over Cluj in Romania.

The victory extended PSV's unbeaten run in all competitions this term, but coach Fred Rutten suggested his team are determined to continue their formidable form.

"The players are hungry for more success after maintaining their unbeaten run in Europe. I'm an happy man," said Rutten.

Roda beat Willem II in their last meeting, but it was one of four wins so far this term and they are unlikely to inflict PSV's first loss of the season.

Heracles Almelo, who are one point behind Utrecht in sixth, begin the final round of Eredivisie fixtures in 2009 with a home clash against VVV Venlo on Friday night.

Heracles coach Gertjan Verbeek expects a difficult encounter, with Keisuke Honda to the fore.

"Honda is a very important player for them, but VVV are also a very strong team," said Verbeek.

"They work hard and play hard. Knowing Jan van Dijk a little, he will again try to attack, it will be very interesting tomorrow.

"I expect a fairly open game."

VVV are ninth after four wins and are seeking their third victory in succession.

They have beaten Willem II 2-1 and RKC Waalwijk 3-0 in their last two games.

Dick Advocaat goes in search of his first win since succeeding Ronald Koeman as AZ boss when the defending champions host ADO Den Haag in one of three Saturday games.

Advocaat was installed as boss for last weekend's 1-0 loss to PSV after AZ parted company with Koeman for a miserable start to the season, which included exit from the Champions League and seven losses in their opening 16 Eredivisie fixtures.

Brett Holman is out for AZ and will not return until after the winter break after an MRI scan revealed damage to his calf.

Karim Soltani returns from suspension for ADO, who defeated AZ 2-1 earlier this season, but they are without a win since.

ADO lost 4-1 to Heracles Almelo in their last match and are now without a win in 11 matches.

Feyenoord are looking for a fourth successive win at home to Willem II.

However, the Rotterdammers will end 2009 in fourth position no matter what the result as third-placed Ajax are four points in front, while fifth-placed Utrecht are four points behind.

Willem II are languishing in 15th place and have lost four straight games since their 1-0 defeat of bottom club RKC on November 1.

RKC are certain of ending 2009 at the foot of the standings, but they will be looking to narrow the gap to one point against Sparta Rotterdam.

RKC are seeking a fourth win of the season against 11th-placed Sparta, but they have conceded eight goals in the last three matches, in defeats to Heerenveen, PSV and VVV.

In Sunday's remaining games, third-placed Ajax travel to NAC Breda seeking a fifth win in six in order to narrow the gap to the top two.

Martin Jol's side followed successive 5-1 triumphs over Heerenveen and Vitesse Arnhem with a 2-0 loss to Utrecht, before recovering with a 3-0 defeat of NEC Nijmegen last time out.

Ajax are the Eredivisie's leading scorers so far this term with 53 goals - 13 coming in their last four fixtures - and will be looking to inflict NAC's eighth loss of the season.

NEC Nijmegen meet Vitesse Arnhem seeking their third win of the season and an end to a 12-match winless run.

NEC, who are one place off the bottom in 17th, have conceded 11 in their last four, while Vitesse have won one of their last four and lie 10th.

FC Groningen, who are 12th, host 14th-placed Heerenveen, who have won once in their last four.
