Lyon missed the chance to go top of Ligue 1 on Sunday night as they were held to a 5-5 draw by Marseille in an extraordinary game at Stade Gerland.

The south coast side looked on course for victory when Brandao's goal gave them a 4-2 lead with 11 minutes remaining.

But Lisandro Lopez scored twice, the second from the penalty spot, in four minutes and Michel Bastos netted in the 90th minute to put Lyon 5-4 in front before Jeremy Toulalan's own goal handed Marseille an even later leveller.

Lyon had twice taken the lead early on through Miralem Pjanic and Sidney Govou, only for Souleymane Diawara and then Benoit Cheyrou to equalise.

Bakari Kone then put Didier Deschamps' men in front for the first time two minutes after the restart before five late goals followed in a crazy finish.

The draw moved Lyon to within a point of leaders Bordeaux, who went down 2-0 at Lille.

A Yohan Cabaye effort and a Florent Balmont penalty in the last 22 minutes gave Lille the points.

Toulouse beat Rennes 3-2 with Andre-Pierre Gignac scoring the decisive goal.

Gignac struck in the 61st minute to make it 3-1 to the home side before Kader Mangane added a second for Rennes to set up a tense finish.

Moussa Sissoko and Daniel Braaten had earlier scored either side of an equaliser from Asamoah Gyan to put Toulouse 2-1 up.

On Saturday, Auxerre moved to within two points of the summit as Joao Paulo's own goal earned them a fortunate 1-0 win at Le Mans .

The Portuguese put through his own net nine minutes after the break to give the visitors their sixth straight win and keep the hosts in the bottom three, but Auxerre were holding on desperately at the end.

Three times, Le Mans saw efforts come back off the woodwork - while Anthony Le Tallec had his penalty saved by Olivier Sorin with four minutes to go.

Monaco fell to fourth after managing only a goalless draw at home to Grenoble, who finally claimed their first point of the season.

Kevin Gameiro and Marama Vahirua both scored twice as Lorient hammered Boulogne 5-0 to keep the pressure on the pace-setters.

The pair put the home side 4-0 up in the space of 25 minutes either side of half-time - before Morgan Amalfitano completed the rout in injury time.

Montpellier ended a run of two straight defeats with a 1-1 draw away to Valenciennes.

The newly-promoted side took the lead with just two minutes gone, but Carlos Sanchez equalised for the home side early in the second half.

Emir Spahic was sent off two minutes from time for a second bookable offence, but Montpellier held on for the draw.

Paris St Germain were booed off by their own fans, after Nice claimed a late winner against the run of play to beat the capital club 1-0.

PSG hit the woodwork three times in a thrilling second half - but Loic Remy, who had earlier missed an open goal, headed Nice's 88th-minute winner.

Flu-hit St Etienne pulled off a surprise 1-0 win at Nancy, thanks to Dimitri Payet's 70th-minute winner.

Elsewhere, Lens moved out of the relegation zone as goalkeeper Vedran Runje helped them to a 2-1 success at Sochaux.

The Croatia international made a string of fine saves as goals from Romain Sartre and Abdoulrazak Boukari earned victory.

Sloan Privat pulled a goal back in stoppage time for Sochaux, who slipped to a fourth home defeat of the season.
