1950: That's me done for the day - and it's always nice to bow out with some praise. Howard Smith writes: "Excellent work yet again by all you guys at TC Towers. The window wouldn't be the same without you."

1920: Looks like we've made it then. For those looking to recap on the deals division by division, head for the main site and check out our specific pages for the Premier League, Scottish Premier League, Coca-Cola Championship, Coca-Cola League One and Coca-Cola League Two. Happy reading.

1904: Sky's man at the Villa claiming the Richard Dunne move will go through tomorrow.

1901: Burnley have removed the 'subject to Premier League clearance' line in the David Nugent story on their site, so looks like that's now officially a done deal.

1858: Fulham failed with a bid to take Middlesbrough striker Jeremie Aliadiere earlier, skysports.com understands.

1856: Preston hafve completed a loan swoop for Wolves centre-half Neill Collins. The Scot has penned a deal which is initially set to run until January 4, with a view to making the move permanent in the New Year.

1849: As expected, Claudio Ranieri is expected to be unveiled as the new coach of Roma on Tuesday.

1837: Confirmation of a story we trailed through the day, with Portsmouth chief executive Peter Storrie confirming he received no offers for goalkeeper David James on transfer deadline day.

1825: And still they come. Sheffield United striker Billy Sharp has switched to Doncaster on loan for the rest of the season.

1816: Richard Barnett writes: "Apparently, the BBC are reporting that Richard Dunne's move from Manchester City to Aston Villa has been ratified by the FA but not by the Premier League. What gives?" Sky Sports News claiming the FA have told Villa the paperwork was received by them in time but the Premier League are yet to confirm it.

1808: A couple from the lower leagues now, Charlton manager Phil Parkinson has made a double swoop for Leon McKenzie and Luke Holden while Leeds manager Simon Grayson has secured the services of South African-born striker David Somma on a one-year deal after an impressive trial.

1806: Hibernian have announced David van Zanten, Jonatan Johansson and Patrick Deane have been released from their contracts by mutual consent.

1756: Deals still coming - Burnley have signed David Nugent on loan, subject to Premier League clearance.

1754: And with that, Graham has departed ahead of his return to the world of fruit and veg selling tomorrow and it's me Reece Killworth back in the chair until 2000.

1746: Bit of news from north of the border and Celtic are close to agreeing a deal to sign China captain Zheng Zhi.

1737: Confirmation from Fulham that they've signed striker David Elm from Kalmar FF on a one-year deal for an undisclosed fee.

1726: Another done deal and Teemu Tainio has joined Birmingham from Sunderland on a season-long loan.

1721: Confirmation of the fact that Peter Lovenkrands has re-signed for Newcastle United.

1718: Sky Sports News claiming that Newcastle have completed the re-signing of Peter Lovenkrands, while e-mailer Henrik Olausson alerts us to the news on Aftonbladet that Kalmar FF forward David Elm has completed his move to Fulham. That according to Elm's agent.

1710: Big news - 'Two Phones' reckons Dunne to Villa is a done deal. We await official confirmation.

1703: Niko Kranjcar has completed his move to Tottenham from Portsmouth. No details on fee (which I expect will be undisclosed) or contract length yet.

1700: Celtic have sent goalkeeper Mark Brown to Kilmarnock on loan.

1700: Big Ben chimes and we've reached the transfer deadline. Killer, shut the window! Of course we know there will still be deals announced now.

1659: Counting down to deadline time and now David Craig of SSN saying Anton Ferdinand won't be joining Tottenham on loan after all.

1657: I'll be hugely disappointed if they don't super-impose Jim White onto Big Ben when the old boy chimes in a few minutes.

1654: One man clearly not happy is Manchester City wide man Martin Petrov. The Bulgarian's agent says the player himself wanted to join Tottenham, but that the deal fell through due "mainly due to Mark Hughes' unwillingness".

1651: Portsmouth have signed Watford centre-back Mike Williamson on a four-year deal. The fee is thought to be around £3million and is their second central defensive signing of the day following that of Tal Ben Haim.

1647: Sounds like Shorey to Portsmouth is off - SSN claiming they just couldn't come to an agreement.

1646: Sky Sports News sources claiming that Richard Dunne's proposed move from Manchester City to Aston Villa is being held up over a reported pay-off he expects from City.

1642: Heitinga by the way will wear the number 5 shirt vacated by Joleon Lescott.

1638: Jim White on SSN now claiming that there could be a last-minute blockbuster with Spurs taking Anton Ferdinand on loan and sending Alan Hutton in the opposite direction to Sunderland. More on that as and when we get it. Also claims Spurs enquired about Matthew Upson.

1636: Another done deal and Johnny Heitinga is an Everton player. He's signed from Atletico Madrid for a fee of £6million (which could rise to £7million) on a five-year contract.

1635: The telly is back. Phew.

1634: Astonishing scenes, not on the transfer front, but in our office. A downpour of biblical proportions has just taken out the tellies - we've lost 'Two Phones' for the minute.

1627: Ibrahima Sonko has joined Hull from Stoke on a season-long loan. Just over 30 minutes to go now.

1620: Sky sources claiming that Everton have completed the signing of Johnny Heitinga from Atletico Madrid for around £6million. Again no official confirmation yet.

That, TC fans, is one deal I don't like. I may be wrong, you'll have to wait and see.

1619: Apparently the Telegraph are claiming the Dunne deal is a done deal if you know what I mean - no official confirmation yet.

1617: Sachin mails in to ask: "Any news stating something about David Silva visiting old trafford?"

We have two Davids at Old Trafford today - superstar racing columnist Ord for the cricket, and golf tipster John taking his nephew on the stadium tour. But haven't heard a Dickie Bird (note cricketing link) about Silva.

1612: Justhad a few mails suggesting David Bentley is at Anfield. Some Reds fans hoping they're a hoax. Me, I think he's taking a relative on the stadium tour.

1610: BREAKING NEWS - 'Two Phones' is back on SSN. Says the Shorey to Portsmouth loan deal may have hit a snag.

1608: Marc Booker mails in to say: "Was just wondering what you guys do between now and January?

I personally sell fruit and veg while Killer is a tree surgeon. G Friel tosses the caber (professionally) while Hammertime has his fingers in all sorts of pies. Hexty is a buyer for Gregg's.

1604: More details on Collins joining Villa are here TC fans.

1602: And another one - Croatian international Ivan Klasnic has completed a season-long loan move from Nantes to Bolton. I'm feeling light-headed all of a sudden.

1600: Matt Smith in Bangkok, a done deal to wet the baby's head! Aston Villa have completed the signing of West Ham defender James Collins for a fee that's believed to be £5million.

1558: Jerome Rothen says he rejected the chance to join Blackburn in order to move to Rangers. "They don't really have the same ambitions as a club. Here, I have the chance to win titles."

    Spot on Jerome.

1555: Off-topic, but merited. Kieren Fallon being interviewed on Sky Sports News about his time away from the saddle, says: "Everything happens for a reason in life. I just needed time away."

1551: Peter in Dallas says it's such a poor day that he's having to work to stay occupied. The shame. Me, I'm about to berate Killworth for not bringing in the Monopoly or Connect Four.

1550: A delirious Pete Lewis mails in to say: "Just been looking through my telescope, and have seen Gabriel Batistuta and Carlos Valderrama with Ian McParland at Meadow Lane."

    Did they look scared Pete?

1546: Still beaming proudly about the baby. Wouldn't mind a couple of transfers as well please.

1543: We could do with a new graphic for this one as the handshake isn't really appropriate. It's our first TC deadline day baby! Matt Smith mails in to say: "A fantastic start to the day when our son 'Alex' came into this world at 1.35pm this afternoon here in Bangkok!!! Now, how I would love Martin O'Neill and Randy Lerner to make it a BRILLIANT end to the day too!! Yeah, Warnock, Dunne, Collins, Beye and Delph/Downing (eventually) are decent buys BUT we MUST NOT stop there. Go and get Jenas and Bentley and go for a striker too and we should be good to tackle the Prem and head for top 4. The nucleus is there, but we need more, so please Villa, don't stop until the VERY final second!"

Matt, congratulations but I'm hugely disappointed you're not naming the baby Douglas Ellis!

1541: Message from Luke Stockhill, who claims: "Just to let you know I've spotted the Bordeaux striker walking into the Emirates Stadium! Looks like the deal might go ahead.

Luke, you sure it wasn't Wenger wearing a Chamakh mask?

1540: This is how bad it's got - SSN are now showing footage of whathappened last deadline day. Come on 'Arry - save us. Just do something!

1534: Oh dear, I can almost feel the pain. Richard Gartland writes in to say: "This is a terrible day really. Nothing going on at Liverpool, club website more interested in telling us that Aurelio is almost back from injury. Is it really so difficult to swap Lucas for Villa. Come on Rafa, get it done."

Somehow I don't think Rafa is going to adding to his "sqwadd" this afternoon.

1534: Brief update from Holland, where Ajax completeed the signing of Serbian forward Marko Pantelic. He's agreed a one-year contract and signs on a free transfer after being released by Hertha Berlin.

1530: Anthony McMahon mails in a contender for 'Headline Of The Day' from greeksoccer.com, who trumpet: "AEK expect Arce in Athens".

    Not bad.

1528: Kevin Mason nails it by mailing in to say we were spoiled by last year's deadline-day events. Totally bonkers - we'll never see the like again.

1527: Dropping down a notch or two, Notts County have completed the loan signing of Matt Ritchie from Portsmouth.

1520: BREAKING NEWS and PSG wide man Jerome Rothen has completed a one-year loan move to Rangers. The full details are here.

1519: I'm back in the chair until deadline time, replacing Reece 'Two Computers' Killworth. Hopefully I'll be a tad calmer than the inimitable Jim White, who's in overdrive already just 20 minutes into his shift despite there being a dearth of deals. Send your mails to graham.shaw@bskyb.com.

1517: Toon fan Callum Dolan back in to say: "Cheers to barry for that, I'm pretty sure with our thin squad we can pass some deals as 'emergency loans' ;) Oh, and rumour is two Premier League players having medicals at Newcastle United for loan moves. My guesses would be Craig Cathcart and Marlon Harewood- my hope would be Craig Cathcart and Gareth Bale/James Vaughan. Anyone expecting any huge moves today? Or any last-minute drama like Robinho?"

1505: Queens Park Rangers sporting director Gianni Paladini has revealed the club had a bid for Gary Hooper rejected by Scunthorpe.

1502: Clarity on the loan situation courtesy of Barry Kelly. From the Newcastle website: "Standard loans can be for half a season or a full season. These can only be done during the two transfer windows (ie by the end of today or in January 2010). Emergency loans can be done outside of the transfer window, but not after the fourth Thursday in November or March."

1500: Daniel Takyi writes: "This, I have to say, is the world's most boring deadline day. I bet the 1923 deadline day was more interesting than this. The biggest transfer is Ben Haim to Portsmouth." Still two hours to go...

1451: Howard Smith writes: "At last - a Gooner rumour. Apparently, Steven Taylor was spotted at the Grove a little earlier. The EveningStandard suggested this morning that Arsenal would go for him or Neven Subotic as well as Chamakh today."

1448: Double Sunderland to Ipswich deal done - Grant Leadbitter and Carlos Edwards on the move for a combined fee that could reach just shy of £4million.

1443: Sky Bet have now suspended betting on David Bentley's club after the transfer window closes following Sky Sports News reports in which Manchester City confirmed they have no intention to sign more players this summer. Sky Bet's Stewart Beesley said: "Bentley sticking with Spurs would be a great result for us at Sky Bet as money has flooded in all day for him to make the move to Eastlands." The firm have also cut England goalkeeper David James to 1/5 to remain at Portsmouth. Beesley added: "The club insists they've had no offers for James, although he is still being backed at 10/3 to rejoin Harry Redknapp at White Hart Lane."

If you fancy a bet on today's transfer specials, simply click here.

1441: Callum Dolan writes: "So two-and-a-half hours (roughly) left, and Newcastle have no new players through the door. Get Lovenkrands in quick time, followed by Cathcart. But one thing I'm unsure is loaning players? Don't suppose you could clear it up for me - can Championship clubs arrange loan moves until November? Or does that window shut the same time as the transfer window?" I think it shuts for a week or so and then reopens but no doubt someone will know for sure.

1432: Skysports.com understands Hull and Newcastle are rivals to sign Aston Villa striker Marlon Harewood on loan.

1428: Here's the latest on David Bentley.

1427: Rod, our resident Wolf reckons: "Joe Ledley is looking at signing for Wolves from Cardiff for £6million plus they get Sam Vokes on loan for the season."

1423: With David Bentley apparently not heading for Man City, Thomas Evans writes/shouts: "COME BACK TO ROVERS DAVID! WE'D WELCOME YOU BACK WITH OPEN ARMS!"

1421: And Anthony McMahon can't resist a Fantasy League jibe at me. He writes: "Rumours are rife in Ireland the half the 'In For The Killers' are up for sale before 1700. Any comment?" I'm open to offers...

1418: Chris Prescott injects a dose of reality into the giddiest day of the year. He writes: "I'm very worried for the survival of Wigan in the Premier League, we have only three strikers at the club and of the three I think only Rodallega and Scotland have any chance of scoring for us this season. Marlon King was shocking for us against Blackpool and if we think that not bringing anyone in today is going to keep us in this division then I think we are in for a very tough nine months ahead. We have had a second bid for Bodde from Swansea City, but why leave it till the last day? And also what happened to our rumoured interest in the talented young Moses from Crystal Palace? Oh well only time willtell, have all the faith in the world in Bobby Martinez and his methods but not too sure if we have the top quality we need to survive."

1415: Hammertime's short-term loan deal has been expired so I'm back, albeit on a different computer. As if deadline day wasn't exciting enough...

1415: And now Watford have reportedly accepted a bid of £3million from Portsmouth for Mike Williamson. Plenty of time yet for that to be confirmed or denied!

1412: I just used the term 'counter claim' in the previous update - and that's exactly what we have now as Fulham deny reports they've opened talked with Bolton about allowing Diomansy Kamara to join the Trotters on loan.

1408: Sky Sports News are now reporting that Manchester City have claimed that David Bentley will not be moving to Eastlands from Tottenham. That's the latest twist but there's plenty more to come on this hectic day of claim and counter claim...

1406: Reece 'One Phone' Killworth's computer has crashed, so while it's loading back up, it is I, Chris Hammer in the chair on a short-term loan basis.

1401: Robert Reed asks: "Is David James going to leave Portsmouth today, or what?" Doesn't look like it at the moment - Sky's man at Pompey's training ground claiming there has been no bid.

1356: Graham's just headed into a conference call but don't worry, you're in safe(ish) hands with me, Reece Killworth sliding into the chair having spent the last couple of hours beavering away in the background. Emails to reece.killworth@bskyb.com.

1352: Just over three hours to go to the fabled 5pm deadline, and no sign yet of Jim White, 'Two Phones' or Franck Ribery. I'm starting to panic, but not about Ribery.

1350: Off-topic, but here's a Google translation to lighten up your deadline-day lunch. It's Bernd Schuster on the battle to the right-back spot in the Real Madrid Globetrotters' starting XI. It comes from Marca and roars: "Arbeloa competition may well come to ginger up the Andalusian."

Just goes to show that they don't always come out of the translation machine perfectly.

1342: Looks like Keano has struck and Grant Leadbitter has joined Ipswich on a three-year deal. Hmmm, real surprise him signing somebody from his old club Sunderland.

1334: We told you earlier that Newcastle appear to be getting Peter Lovenkrands back at St James' Park, and Manchester United youngster Craig Cathcart could arrive at the club on a loan deal. Finally, apparently the Toon and Middlesbrough have been offered Mark Viduka on a pay-as-you-play basis. All those nuggets from the Evening Chronicle.

1334: Aston Villa say they've agreed a fee with West Ham for James Collins.

1333: Portsmouth say they've had no offers yet for David James. Fully expect Notts County to offer the 39-year-old stopper a five-year-deal at some stage this afternoon.

1330: A little more detail on the news that Johnny Heitinga has arrived at the Everton training ground. The excitement on Merseyside must be palpable.

1326: Sky sources saying Fulham and Bolton are in talks over a season-long loan deal for Diomansy Kamara.

1325: To be honest I never thought for a moment Marouane Chamakh would join West Ham today. And he won't. So says the man on Sky Sports News.

1323: With the market shut in Europe, heard a TV reporter earlier (shall remain nameless) say the only place Franck Ribery can come today is "England or Scotland". Please. Anyway, what about Wales?

1316: The lengthy battle for the services of Claude Davis is over. He's signed for Crystal Palace after being released by Derby. Proceed for full details.

1305: Birmingham still in the hunt for a left-back, and the latest two names are Armand Traore and one Gareth Bale. Click here for the full details.

1302: News now for Swansea fans. You've rejected a fresh bid from Wigan for Dutch midfielder Ferrie Bodde.

1301: A couple of sightings for the fashionistas out there. Tal Ben Haim heading for a 4x4 in a YELLOW ski jacket. And David Bentley and his mate embracing warmly in matching lumberjack shirts. Both a faux pas IMHO.

1246: Jabba, I take it all back. David Villa is obviously jetting in to John Lennon for a night at the bingo with Fernando 'El Nino' Torres.

1245: Jabba mails in to say: "I have just seen David Villa arriving at Liverpool airport. WATCH THIS SPACE."

I am Jabba, I am. And I can't see anything. Yellow card for you.

1236: Some more details now on Tal Ben Haim joining Portsmouth.

1233: Just seen pictures of Jerome Rothen arriving at Glasgow Airport earlier - wearing a V-neck with nowt underneath. Only the French can carry off that sort of look IMHO - chictastic.

1231: BREAKING NEWS and Tal Ben Haim has completed his move to Portsmouth on a four-year deal - subject to the work permit of course. Strange how our man Ben Haim always seems to end up at clubs with rich new backers (Chelsea/City/Pompey). Notts County next anyone?

1229: Rather quiet in Ipswich at the minute, strange given Keano's dark proclamations in recent days. But according to the Green'Un the great one has put in a bid for Sheffield Wednesday centre-back Richard Wood.

1226: Sky sources now claiming that Ben Watson has joined QPR from Wigan on a six-month loan deal.

1224: A lot of reports floating about claiming Arsenal and West Ham are both still trying to sign Bordeaux striker Marouane Chamakh. Nothing confirmed yet though.

1217: Nantes striker Ivan Klasnic says he doesn't know where his future lies amid speculation about a potential move to Bolton. Trotters fans out there, are you excited about another striker potentially coming in from France? After all the last one seems to be working out well. No? Anyway, the full story is here.

1216: Another rumour for you TC fans - Preston North End striker David Nugent is reported to be back at Deepdale after failing to settle at Portsmouth.

1212: Slightly off-topic, but a brief update from Italy for you. Gazzetta Dello Sport is reporting that Luciano Spalletti has resigned as Roma coach, and one Claudio Ranieri is set to replace him. Tinkermantastic.

1201: Bristol City apparently won't follow up interest in trialists Quincy Owusu-Abeyie and Vincent Pericard. The full story is here.

1158: Couple of lines for you from the Sheffield Star, which says Sheffield United have swapped Lee Hendrie for Derby left-back Jordan Stewart. Meanwhile "sources close to United's Brian Howard claim the former Barnsley midfielder will sign for Championship rivals Reading on loan today."

1154: Looks like Peter Lovenkrands is set to spurn all other offers to return to Newcastle United. That according to the Evening Chronicle in the North East.

1149: Just been watching Kerlon's famed "seal dribble" on Youtube - he's the bloke who dribbles the ball on his head. In this clip he gets absolutely cleaned out by a defender who clearly thinks he's taken the showboating to a ridiculous level. Old school clogging.

1148: Merseyside update from S.Dex, who says: "Word around the campfire is that we (everton) are back in for hutton, please no he's pants."

    Strong stuff.

1145: Dutch update and Ajax have signed midfielder Kerlon from Inter Milan on a season-long loan

deal. The 21-year-old Brazilian, famous for his unique 'seal dribble' (intrigued, anyone seen it? - Ed), will stay in Amsterdam until June 2010 with Ajax also having the option to make the deal

    permanent next summer.

1142: Well at various times last week it appeared that Arjen Robben was being ushered out of the Santiago Bernabeu screaming and kicking. But Real Madrid sporting director Jorge Valdano says the Robben camp asked them to accept Bayern's offer.

1135: Update for Birmingham fans, and Alex McLeish says his bid to sign Sporting Gijon midfielder Michel is over. Looks like money was the stumbling block. What a shock.

1129: Fascinating craic from the Sunderland Echo, which says "Steve Bruce was today going eye-to-eye with Wigan Athletic over Sunderland's desire to sign left-back Maynor Figueroa".

Eye-to-eye - blimey. The paper goes on to say it will be a question of who blinks first. Obvious really.

1125: Bit of opinion on City going for Bentley, from Gerry Flynn in Ireland. He says: "I think Hughes looking for Bentley is mad, he's toally fluffed his chances over the years and in my opinion Petrov would be a better squad player!"

1119: Another van Nistelrooy sighting (and the last for today folks) from Robert Lynn, who says: "He's at Ripon racecourse, apparently he's running in the 2.30."

Hope he performs better than the one I backed in the 2.25 yesterday.

1117: Steady on people. John Brennan says: "I heard that benjani is signing a deal with notts county and they are hoping to get cristian vieri although he is a free agent so they ave time to do that, also rivaldo might join."

What about Ronaldo (the chubby one, not CR9), you forgot to mention him!

1115: It's been a busy few days for Sunderland, and they've had a bid turned down by ENPPI for Egyptian winger Ahmed Al-Muhammadi. Full details are here.

1114: Mail from Chris Mitchell, who says: "Good news travels fast, but not as fast as Van Nistelrooy if my source is to be believed; he's just been spotted in Burnley!"

Nice one Chris, that must be the van Nistelrooy lookalike spotted at both Liverpool and Everton training grounds this summer. Clearly he likes the North West. Bolton next?

1104: Several reported sightings of Scott McDonald today, none of them confirmed of course. Latest update comes from Andrew Jackson in Wigan, who believes he could be set to become a Latic (possibly on loan).

Scott, just give us a bell and put an end to all this by telling us where you actually are!

1058: If you believe the Spanish papers (I tend to) then Franck Ribery will move to Real Madrid from Bayern Munich next summer. The Frenchman hasn't read that script though, and says there is no agreement yet for him to depart for the Santiago Bernabeu. Full details are here.

1049: Looks like West Ham defender James Collins is on the verge of joining Aston Villa for around £5million. Luke Daw et al, here are the full details.

1042: BREAKING NEWS and Sky sources claims Niko Kranjcar has passed a Tottenham medical as he looks to leave the South Coast for White Hart Lane. More news on that as we get it.

1039: Betting update now from our Jonathan Turner, who says: "One man who could be on his way out of White Hart Lane is David Bentley, with Sky Bet making it 1/4 from 6/4 that he's snapped up by his former Blackburn boss Mark Hughes at Manchester City.

Sky Bet's Stewart Beesley says: "Harry Redknapp really wants James, who has worked with him before but he has got to persuade his chairman. Money is coming in in equal amounts for James to stay at Pompey and go to Spurs. As far as Bentley is concerned, Harry does not appear to be too bothered about losing him. City are front runners to sign him with Bentley playing for Hughes at Blackburn."

If you fancy a bet on today's transfer specials, simply click here.

1030: Bit more flesh on the bones of a busy day for Celtic defender Darren O'Dea. New three-year deal and then a loan move to Reading. Here are the details.

1028: Toon update from Ben Coley, in response to Callum Dolan (see 1012 update). Ben says: "Coloccini has joined up with the Argentina squad for their all-important game against Brazil this weekend - I'd say that'll make it very hard for him to be putting pen to paper on any deal and it should see him stay at St. James's until January at least. I think if they can get him focusing on his football then he has to be worth having, although his wages are probably ugly reading from a prospective buyers point of view."

1020: For more details on that Danny Collins move to Stoke, here you go.

1018: BREAKING NEWS and Stoke have completed the signing of Danny Collins from Sunderland for £2.75million.

1017: Jeremy James mails in to say: "As a Man Utd fan, I'm very pleased with Wayne Rooney and his comments, although I wouldn't read too much into it. Remember his comments while still at Everton (once a blue always a blue)?"

    Good point well made Jeremy.

1012: One man excited about deadline day is Toon fan Callum Dolan, who says: "After the bitter disappointment of last year's window, I'm hoping for a bit of joy today. With Coloccini being left out of yesterday's squad, as well as Butt, I think it's safe to say that both of these guys will be moved on. If we can get anything near £4-5m for the pair of the then I'll be happy. Rumour is that Craig Cathcart will be joining us on loan today, and that we're interested in Darren Gibson. Maybe Danny Simpson has been raving about his time up north to his Manchester mates. Another possible transfer is James Vaughan being brought in either permantely or a loan move with a view to a permanent transfer to replace Xisco."

Moving Xisco out was a step in the right direction - that went well didn't it! Coloccini would be another one IMHO.

1009: For all your Rangers fans out there, a little more detail on that possible move to Ibrox for PSG wide man Jerome Rothen.

1005: Seems like our men in Papua New Guinea earned their nicknames for on-the-pitch exploits (I'm almost relieved - Ed). Their latest mail says: "Slayer Stevens and Chopper Whitfield are well known intimadatories (formally known as Centre-Halfs) for Port Moresby Pommies F.C. in Papua New Guinea, this seemingly mythical Pacific Island football team can be seen around any bar on a Saturday or Sunday night watching the Premier League games on satellite telly. They are available on the transfer market for a couple of beers and offer outstanding defence (and offensive capabilities), having been nurtured in the Kippax Street and Elland Road in previous glory days."

Wonder if 'Arry will put in a bid.

1003: TC mainstay Hammer Hanna mails in his deadline-day thoughts, saying: "Zola has done some good business in swapping Savio for De Costa. This basically is covering the clubs mistake in breaking the club's record fee for Savio in the first place. I would be surprised now if Collins does not move to Villa today, or anywhere else for that matter. With the signing of De Costa it will mean the Hammers have Upson, Tomkins, Gabbidon, De Costa and hopefully a fully recovered Davenport vying for the centre back spot and Collins would look the the most likely to make way. He would be a bargain at 5 million and I am sure most Hammer fanswill be sad to see him go."

1000: Metalica_5 drops us a line to say: "I don't know what has possessed harry redknapp to want to sign David James? The only way we would ever sell him is if we had a perfectly good replacement ready to come in which we don't, I personally think Harry should naff off and go find another keeper."

Blimey. There you go Harry, you've been told.

0954: Here's the latest on David Bentley, courtesy of the Manchester Evening News. The paper confirms City are in talks aimed at signing the Tottenham man, and suggests an £8million player-plus cash deal involving Martin Petrov could be on. It also says a loan deal for Bentley with Petrov joining Spurs for a fee in a separate deal is possible.

0950: The calm before the storm at the moment - no big deals yet on deadline day. The address to send your e-mails is graham.shaw@bskyb.com..

0949: Brief update from north of the border for you, and Sky Sports News now claiming that Darren O'Dea has signed a three-year contract extension at Celtic. He's now off to Reading on loan though.

0936: Update now on the future of Danny Collins. Stoke say they're still in talks with the Sunderland player and hope to sign him today. The full story is here.

0933: Interesting quote from Rafael van der Vaart, who is staying at Real Madrid, despite the fact he says Everton wanted to sign him. The Dutchman says: "I heard Everton wanted me. Directly I have said I want to stay in Madrid. This is also to do with my personal life. I want to fight for my place for at least a half year and then I know how good I am. If I don't play much, I can always leave in January."

0922: Intriguing report in from Scotland, where Sky Sports News are claiming that PSG's French international wide player Jerome Rothen has flown into Glasgow, hopefully to seal a move to Rangers. More on that as we get it.

0921: More flesh on the bones now on a couple of stories. First of all the latest on Bentley to Man City is here, while the Shorey to Pompey latest is here.

0918: Bit more detail on a few stories for you now - first of all Rafa Benitez talking about Alberto Aquilani and his progress in returning from injury.

0913: Bit more detail on Sir Alex Ferguson backing his current Manchester United squad. Here you go.

0903: Update from Merseyside now on Everton plans for the next few hours. The Liverpool Echo claims the Toffees haven't given up on Johnny Heitinga yet and are trying to put together a "suitable financial package". The paper also says boss David Moyes wants a midfielder, and mentions David Bentley, or more likely Middlesbrough's Adam Johnson. Doesn't look like Ever Banega will be arriving though - despite the fact Everton got him a work permit 10 days ago. Played forValencia at the weekend and looks likely to stay at the Mestalla now.

0855: Kevin Green says his contacts believe Joe Ledley is in talks with Wolves, and that Sam Vokes is going the other way on loan.

0850: Yet more Portsmouth news, and Sky Sports News are claiming they've agreed terms to take Nicky Shorey from Aston Villa on a season-long loan. The report says Shorey is now en route to Fratton Park for a medical. Reckon the Portsmouth fax machine may cry "no mas" by about 3pm!

0847: Latest e-mailer is Wigan fan Chris Prescott, who is not a happy bunny. He says: "I am feeling a little bit un-nerved at the minute with Wigan in the transfer market, I have heard not one rumour from the club over the weekend about any possible signings? Does anyone have any idea if they are in the market? I heard recently they were very interested in Moses from Crystal Palace but that seems to have died off? We do not have a strong enough squad, or strike force to compete at the minute in the premier league."

Could be a long day Chris, or a very short one!

0846: Just as a post-script to Slayer and Chopper, I don't know whether I dare ask why they got those nicknames!

0845: Mail now from Alan Smith, who says: "If Pompey do sell Krancjar and James I can see them getting relegated this season, anyone agree?"

0843: Mail from TC regular Andy Walmsley, on Fergie's boast that he knows he has the right squad and has no need to spend all the Ronaldo money. Andy reckons United will never spend that £80million and adds: "Even though everybody can see United's short comings in midfield he will not dip into the market , Silva was an OBVIOUS choice. That said United have a lot of really exciting 16-18 y-o's coming through(although no media orgasms over them ala Arsenal) some better than Macheda in my opinion so the long-term prospects are good."

0840: Slayer in Papua New Guinea has gone it alone with a follow-up mail (though he mentions Chopper is a die-hard Leeds fan who believes Johnny Giles could still get a game at Elland Road.

He says: "The Papau New Guinea window never closes - (the bar remains open too, no breath testing either- or any roads to speak of).

Actually the sun is just going down and its dropping off to about 28 degrees. I worry about City and Bentley - how well does the boss know him?? and would he open the door for Petrov to go elsewhere for a regular game."

0836: A Google translation of Marca's take on deadline day on Spain says "the market closed without any 'pump'."

Do hope we get a bit of 'pump' here folks. Fully expect Redknapp and Pompey to provide it.

0835: Sky sources now saying that Manchester City are in talks with Tottenham about a move for David Bentley. This one could run and run through to that 5pm deadline.

0832: Handshake time TC fans, as Portsmouth complete a loan deal for Benfica midfielder Hassan Yebda for the rest of the season. More details (only a few more) are here. Looks like one way or another Pompey will be the major players today.

0828:Quick mail from Kevin Green, who is hoping the Daily Mail are right with their line saying the club have bid £6million for Joe Ledley.

0826: Just had a marvellous mail from Slayer and Chopper in Papua New Guinea. What time is it there? Surely the window must have shut hours ago for you fellas!

0823: Quick line from Wayne Rooney, talking to The Sun this morning. He says he'd never walk out on Manchester United unless they didn't want him. The full story is here.

0817: Doesn't look like Liverpool will be doing any business today, but a quick update for the Anfield faithful on the progress of their big summer buy - Italian midfielder Alberto Aquilani. Boss Rafa Benitez says he's pleased with Aquilani's progress from an ankle injury and that the player is swimming and doing gym work.

He told the Liverpool Echo: "We cannot put a date on things and it's important to just see how he progresses. We are checking on him regularly and he had a scan in the past week which showed he is much better. It's just a case of keeping an eye on him every day. When he does start to play everyone will see what a clever player he is."

No wonder Rafa keeps talking Aquilani up, his team's season could very well depend on how the former Roma man fits in at Anfield.

0812: Update from Hull now, where the Tigers suddenly have a few million pounds burning a hole in their pockets following last night's departure of Michael Turner to Sunderland (reportedly £8million rising to £12million). The Hull Daily Mail says the Tigers are looking for a striker but the deal for Benjani has of course fallen through. Blackburn could now move for Benjani, which could leave Benni McCarthy as a possible Hull target, though apparently wages would be a big stumbling block. Sheffield United centre-back Matthew Kilgallon could be a possibility but it sounds like the Blades' asking price of £4million could be too high. One man who could be leaving the KC is striker Daniel Cousin. Burnley is a possible destination.

0810: Another mail from a Villa fan now - Tony Warr. He says: "Good to read about the almost Dunne deal with Villa. Any other 'scoops' for us impatient Villa supporters in Australia. Eg Collins from West Ham?"

Villa have been very quiet in terms of their transfer dealings - they don't like to conduct their business in public. Very confident Dunne will go through, as for anything else we'll have to wait and see.

0808: Mail now from Jeremy James, who says: "I agree with my namesake Jeremy Cowan (see Lucas Neill update at 0702) - this is what you get for overpricing yourself - although its not too uncommon among Aussies. Go England, Go Ashes!"

Agree on Neill, as for the Ashes, we've already won them!

0805: You may remember Wigan mounting a cheeky loan bid for Celtic striker Scott McDonald over the weekend, well John Louden reckons he could be booked for a shock move to Hull City.

0800: Sky Sports News claiming that Richard Dunne is having a medical at Aston Villa this morning - Luke Daw we'll keep you posted on that one!

0759: Intriguing line from Italy last night, where Corriere Dello Sportis claiming Roma mounted a last-ditch bid to sign Ruud van Nistelrooy from Real Madrid. The paper claims the clubs pretty much had an agreement, but adds that van Nistelrooy would have turned the move down. What was the point of all that then?

0757: Update on events in Italy late last night, where after much doom and gloom for most of the day, Fabio Grosso almost inevitably completed his move from Lyon to Juventus. Most times you can ignore the "it won't happen now" stuff - there's plenty of posturing before the deal gets done at the 11th hour. As in this case.

0754: Good to see that the Dutch are still open for business up until 1700 BST today. Hopefully they'll provide a little entertainment during the next few hours.

0751: Slightly off-topic but worth mentioning anyway. Gazzetta Dello Sport in Italy is going big this morning on the "likely divorce" between Roma and coach Luciano Spalletti, with Claudio Ranieri apparently a possible successor. You have to feel a little bit sorry for Spalletti, who I've always thought has done a pretty good job in the capital. But two defeats to start the season - at Genoa and at home to Juve - generally means you're gone. Particularly in Italy.

0748: Quick West Brom update for all the Baggies fans out there, and midfielder Borja Valero has returned to Mallorca on a season-long loan. Tony Mowbray you remember paid £4.7million for him last summer.

0732: The market closed of course in Spain last night, and Real Madrid failed to make it a summer clean sweep as Franck Ribery stayed put at Bayern Munich. But it sounds like pretty much a done deal that that Frenchman will move to the Santiago Bernabeu next summer. In other Real news, defender Miguel Torres moved to Getafe last night on a five-year deal. The fee is apparently in the region of £2million.

0729: The Spanish papers love stirring up the Real Madrid/Barcelona rivalry, and there's a nice quote from Real goalkeeper Iker Casillas in this morning's edition of AS. When asked if he'll miss Barca striker Samuel Eto'o - now in Italy with Inter Milan - he says: "I'm glad he's gone to Italy, for me he's better than Ibrahimovic."

Barca of course replaced Eto'o with Ibrahimovic. I'm with Iker on this one - big mistake IMHO.

0724: Well worth looking back quickly at some interesting quotes from Sir Alex Ferguson, and I want your opinions TC fans.

Fergie said: "The bulk of the £80m fee we got from Real Madrid for Cristiano Ronaldo is still there, of course, and it seems to be burning a hole in the pockets of a lot of fans," he said. But you don't suddenly scrap your transfer policy because of one defeat even if it was a bad one (at Burnley). I have explained our strategy, based on my confidence in our squad with a few new faces, existing players maturing and more eager beavers on the way up, and I have no intention of abandoning it. I know we have the right squad."

Anyone care to disagree with the great man? Do United have the right squad?

0722: Good morning to a weary but euphoric Miha Jurgec, just returned from a Coldplay gig in Udine. He says: "Vagner Love's move to Palmeiras has got to be the surprise of the day. On Kranjcar and James - Portsmouth will really have no time to react if Tottenham pull this out. They've been the cornerstones of Portsmouth's survival in the Premier League, and one can imagine itwill be very, very hard to get direct replacements."

0719: Mail now from Sunderland fan Martin Barwick, who tells us: "Been really pleased with Steve Bruce's work to date in the transfer market but I have been waiting for weeks now to see what he was going to do about our lack of full-backs. If we could get one or two full-backs in I think we have the makings of a really good squad and should be set for our best campaign for several years. Fingers crossed for some news before 5pm!"

Have to agree on the subject of Bruce, some good business. But £12million (reportedly) for Michael Turner? Bonkers wouldn't you agree. But that's the market these days.

0710: One point to remember is that the transfer market in most of Europe closed at midnight last night - and it looks like Everton have missed out on Atletico Madrid defender Johnny Heitinga. As we told you yesterday, he wants to stay in the Spanish capital.

0702: Jeremy Cowan is our latest e-mailer, and he says: "I can't believe that Lucas Neill, the Aussie Captain, is going to go unwanted in the trasfer window, I suppose that's what happens when you think you're worth more than you really are. Does anyone have any news on him??"

No news Jeremy - any other hidden gems out there TC fans? Let us know your deadline-day sleepers.

0653: Just a quick recap for you on last night's major events. Sunderland completed the signing of Hull defender Michael Turner while West Ham signed Manuel Da Costa from Fiorentina and sent Savio Nsereko in the opposite direction. Stoke meanwhile announced the signing of Uruguay international Diego Arismendi and Wolves captured giant striker Stefan Maierhofer from Rapid Vienna. Monaco completed the signing of Eidur Gudjohnsen from Barcelona and last but not least, Portsmouth reportedly had a bid rejected for Amr Zaki.

0649: Another e-mail, this time from Chris Murtagh. He says: "What a day this will be! (clearly the excitement is getting to everybody - Ed). Vagner love moved to Palmeiras from CSKA Moscow yesterday. I did expect him to move to a top European team, so that came as quite a shock to me."

Me too Chris. Enjoy the fun today!

0645: Very early mail from Luke Daw, who asks: "Do you think villa will sign richard dunne today?"

I think if Dunne wants the move then the deal gets done. These things normally do - could be late in the day though.

0625: One signing we are expecting earlier rather than later is Tottenham's capture of Portsmouth's Niko Kranjcar - while Harry Redknapp could also snap up David James.

0620: Good morning and welcome to what promises to be a hectic transfer deadline day - arguably one of the highlights of the sporting summer! We'll keep you right up to speed with all the breaking deals being made at home and abroad until the window officially shuts while as always you can get involved by not only sending us your views on the day's activity.
