Gary Megson admits Bolton are in danger of being priced out of a deal to sign Sporting Lisbon star Miguel Veloso.
The Trotters have tabled a bid for the 22-year-old - reported to be in the region of £12million - but the two clubs appear far apart in valuation.
Time is quickly running out before Monday's transfer deadline but Megson won't pay over the odds to get his man.
"If we can bring him in, great, if not we need to move on sooner rather than later," said Megson after Wednesday night's 2-2 draw with Blackburn.
"We need to make sure we're not on a fool's errand. They've made it clear what kind of money they want, and we won't pay that.
"If that's a stalemate, then we will move on."
