Reports in Germany suggest Portsmouth have failed in their efforts to sign Tranquillo Barnetta.
The midfielder is currently on the books of Bayer Leverkusen, where he has been since 2004.
The Swiss international has established himself as one of the Bundesliga's most consistent performers in recent years and has regularly attracted interest from elsewhere.
It has now been suggested that Pompey lodged a £7.75million approach for the 23-year-old, only to see the offer knocked back by the player.
Barnetta believes he made the choice in turning down the opportunity to move to the Premier League, claiming he is more than happy in Germany.
"It did not even take me two seconds to decide to stay at Bayer," he said.
