Paul Ince will wait for a call from Blackburn before deciding whether he would like the manager's job at Ewood Park.

Although Sam Allardyce was the latest to be interviewed for the vacancy as Mark Hughes' successor on Thursday, Ince has emerged as the fans' choice with Alan Shearer now out of the running.

Given the strength of support Ince enjoys among the Ewood Park faithful following impressive stints with Macclesfield and Milton Keynes Dons, it would seem automatic Rovers chief executive John Williams will eventually make contact.

And only then will Ince spend any time wondering what to do.

"I can't make any decisions until I have received a call from my chairman saying Blackburn have asked to speak to me," Ince told Sky Sports News.

"Blackburn would have to speak to my chairman first. If that happens, we will go from there."

It hardly seems likely Ince would turn Blackburn down, especially given the glowing reference he has paid the club.

However, the claims of Allardyce and former Barcelona and Chelsea assistant Henk Ten Cate cannot be dismissed either.

"It is nice when you are being talked about by Premier League clubs," he said. "It shows I have done an okay job in my two years as a manager, which I am pleased about.

"Blackburn are a great club, with great traditions. They are a family club and Mark Hughes did a fantastic job there, so we will see."

For Allardyce, the main problem is overcoming long-standing hostility among Blackburn fans to his tactics.

Blackburn supporters regard their club as adopting a more cultured approach than they feel was on offer during Allardyce's time at the Reebok.

Allardyce's excellent record at Bolton is a fairly substantial counterweight, although his ill-fated stint at Newcastle has not done much for his reputation.

Ten Cate is also emerging as a serious contender.

Having left Stamford Bridge in the wake of Avram Grant's dismissal, the Dutchman has not been short of job offers and is believed to be holding off from committing himself to the manager's job at Panathinaikos until the Blackburn situation is resolved.
