Substitute Samuel Eto'o scored twice as Barcelona opened their United States tour in style with a 5-2 defeat of Mexico's Chivas in Chicago.

The Cameroon international striker, who has been told he is surplus to requirements by Barca coach Pep Guardiola, came off the bench at half-time and was on target within three minutes before adding his second and Barcelona's fourth after 72 minutes.

Xavi put Barcelona, who were without Lionel Messi who is representing Argentina in the Beijing Olympics, in front before Alexander Hleb netted his first goal since arriving from Arsenal last month.

Eto'o then opened his account before Padilla replied for Chivas.

Eto'o scored his second to restore the three-goal advantage before Hernandez netted for the Mexicans two minutes from time.

But there was still time for Martin Caceres to net Barca's fifth.
