Picture Giuly - will not play at World Cup

GIULY WILL REFUSE TO PLAY

Champions League winner Ludovic Giuly will refuse to make himself available for France coach Raymond Domenech at the World Cup even in the case of a last-minute injury.

The 29-year-old was last week not included in Domenech's 23-man squad for the prestigious competition which takes place in Germany from June 9 to July 9.

"If a player gets injured at the last minute, well, too bad for Domenech," said Giuly, who has 17 caps and won the Primera Liga and Champions League titles with Barcelona this season.

Giuly, who has been one of the most used players by Domenech since he took the reins of the national team in July 2004, does not understand why he was not picked and is highly critical of the coach's selection.

"The worst thing is that no one phoned me to tell me to be ready in case of a last-minute injury," Giuly said.

"Domenech was not even capable of doing that.

"The most important thing is to talk with the players, but he did not dare to do it.

"I deserved more respect. Apparently I am not even part of the 30 or 40-man list. I don't know where I am and I don't know whether I am part of any plans in the future.

"So I am off to Australia for a month. I will do some canoeing among crocodiles, kangaroos and penguins."

Giuly was convinced he fulfilled all of Domenech's criteria to be part of the team.

"I could recognise myself in everything he said on television about the conditions required to go to the World Cup," he added in L'Equipe.

"He wanted experience, players capable of accepting being on the bench, who play in a great club and are ready to fight while remaining happy at all times. I did all that in Barcelona.

"So either I did not understand or Domenech has to change his speech."
