Leeds 1-0 Brentford

Eddie Nketiah made a name for himself at Elland Road by coming off the bench and netting a late winner as Leeds returned to the top of the Championship with a 1-0 victory over Brentford.

With former Arsenal striker Ian Wright watching on from the stands, the Gunners loanee was sent on for his Championship debut in the 77th minute in a bid to find a goal.

And just four minutes later, the 20-year-old tapped home from Helder Costa's cross to ensure Leeds leagfrogged Sheffield Wednesday to the summit.

Former United defender Pontus Jansson appeared to be helping his new side to a point on his return to the stadium where he made his name in English football.

A fans' favourite at the Whites, the Swede's departure to the Bees for just £5.5million this summer baffled many of the home supporters.

Jansson was the subject of occasional boos and chants of 'You're Leeds and you know you are', but could not prevent Nketiah's winner.

England Under-21 boss Aidy Boothroyd, plus cricketers Chris Woakes, Jonny Bairstow and Jack Leach were among the spectators as Jansson lined up against his former side.

Brentford had the first effort on target as Sergi Canos tamely shot at Kiko Casilla following smart link-up play with Ollie Watkins.

Leeds made a sloppy start, struggling to find their usual fluency, and Brentford were a post away from breaking the deadlock in the 24th minute.

Bryan Mbeumo let fly with a left-footed strike from 25 yards that beat Casilla but cannoned off the woodwork.

The hosts responded by racing down the other end and Mateusz Klich tested goalkeeper David Raya with a low left-footed volley.

A stretching Patrick Bamford headed over the top and then, having beaten the on-rushing Raya to the ball, nodded just wide of the empty net.

Former Brentford midfielder Adam Forshaw ended the first half by skewing a header wide and started the second with a rasping drive that Raya held.

Leeds looked a different team after the interval, pinning Brentford in their own half, with Pablo Hernandez's powerful effort just flying over the top.

Elland Road was crying for a penalty in the 64th minute when a Klich shot hit a Brentford player on the arm in the box, but referee Andy Davies was unmoved.

Leeds were always susceptible on the counter attack and the warning signs were there when Watkins curled wide.

But Marcelo Bielsa introduced Costa and Nketiah, with the pair combining to devastating effect nine minutes from time to raise the roof.

Fulham 4-0 Millwall

Ivan Caveleiro puts Fulham ahead against Millwall
Ivan Cavaleiro puts Fulham ahead against Millwall

Ivan Cavaleiro struck twice as Fulham eased their way to a one-sided 4-0 victory over Millwall at Craven Cottage.

The Portugal winger, signed on a season-long loan from Wolves, followed up his superb match-winning strike at Huddersfield last Friday with two outstanding finishes.

Anthony Knockaert, another of Scott Parker's summer signings, and Aleksandar Mitrovic were also on target as the Cottagers registered a third successive win and brought Millwall's unbeaten run in the Sky Bet Championship to a halt.

Neil Harris' side had earned praise for the way they had started the campaign but they never looked like getting anything from a game dominated by the home side.

Fulham's front three of Knockaert, Cavaleiro and Mitrovic quickly showed they were capable of stretching the Millwall defence.

And Millwall keeper Bartosz Bialkowski had to be alert to tip a Mitrovic header over the bar after the striker had been picked out by a testing Knockaert cross from the Fulham left.

Two minutes later, though, the keeper could do little to prevent Cavaleiro from establishing Fulham's 15th-minute lead.

With Knockaert having switched back to the right, the Portuguese was positioned to receive Tom Cairney's pass on the left side of the Millwall box.

The Portugal winger cut inside onto his right foot, drifting past Millwall right-back Mahlon Romeo and winger Connor Mahoney, before unleashing a dipping shot that Bialkowski had little chance of stopping.

From that moment there was little doubt about the final outcome with Parker's side dominating possession and it came as no surprise when they added a 32nd-minute second.

On this occasion Cavaleiro turned provider, delivering a left-wing cross that Knockaert stooped to turn home with a brave header as Millwall centre-back Jake Copper attempted to clear.

Harris introduced former Fulham striker Matt Smith from the bench at half-time in an attempt to fire up his side.

The change almost had the desired effect when the forward was presented with a clear sight of goal following Tom Bradshaw's deflected shot but placed his effort too close to keeper Marcus Bettinelli.

Any hope Millwall might have had of forcing their way back into the game disappeared when Mitrovic scored from the penalty spot after he had been brought down by Bialkowski as he attempted to make his way past the keeper in the 56th minute.

And Cavaleiro confirmed his outstanding start to life at his new club with his second in the 63rd minute when he rounded Bialkowski after being sent clear by a superb chipped pass by Cairney.

A miserable night for Millwall was made complete when Tom Bradshaw's 82nd-minute header was ruled out for offside.

Preston 3-1 Stoke

It was a night to forget for Jack Butland at Deepdale
It was a night to forget for Jack Butland at Deepdale

Stoke paid the price for two mistakes by goalkeeper Jack Butland as dominant Preston secured their second Sky Bet Championship win of the season with a 3-1 victory over the division's bottom side.

Nathan Jones' Potters, who were second best throughout and are still looking for their first victory of the campaign, were booed off by their own supporters at Deepdale.

James McClean's late strike proved merely a consolation after Josh Harrop had made the game safe with a goal 20 minutes from time.

Daniel Johnson and Billy Bodin had put the hosts 2-0 up before the break in an assured display from Preston.

The visitors were looking comfortable in the opening exchanges, but it was North End who struck first in the sixth minute.

Bodin's right-wing cross was only meekly headed clear into the path of Johnson, who scored his second goal of the campaign past Butland, who looked slow in going down.

Buoyed by their opener, Alex Neil's men were soon on the attack again, with Harrop charging through before firing narrowly wide.

By the midway point in the first half, Stoke had finally got back into something of a rhythm, but Tom Ince fluffed a terrific chance to level when he blazed over from just inside the Preston box.

The Potters' prospects took a major nosedive in the 25th minute, thanks largely to a double clanger from goalkeeper Butland.

He only punched Ben Davies' hopeful ball into the path of Bodin, then as a rather weak shot came in from the Preston man, Butland let the ball squirm under him.

Stoke emerged for the second half re-energised, and they went close when Scott Hogan stooped to head McClean's out-swinging corner narrowly off target.

Nathan Collins saw an effort hacked off the line by Patrick Bauer, while fellow substitute Peter Etebo somehow hooked a shot clear of the crossbar from only a couple of yards out.

Time was beginning to run away from the Potters, with North End still appearing comfortable heading into the final half hour.

By the 68th minute, the hosts made it 3-0 when Butland could only parry Johnson's initial strike into the path of Harrop, who buried the rebound from 12 yards.

There was a feisty closing 15 minutes as referee John Brooks dished out a number of yellow cards.

And not even McClean's late consolation, tapping home Tom Edwards' far-post cross, could prevent this from being a dismal night for a Stoke side who have just one point so far this Championship season.

Cardiff 2-1 Huddersfield

Junior Hoilett snatched a late winner for Cardiff as Huddersfield slipped to a 2-1 defeat in their first match since sacking manager Jan Siewert.

Former Cardiff promotion-winning captain Mark Hudson has taken caretaker charge of the Terriers and they looked like they would ease their problems with a battling point.

Siewert was dismissed following Huddersfield's defeat to Fulham last Friday.

Joe Ralls put Cardiff into the lead in the 42nd minute before Trevoh Chalobah levelled early in the second half. It looked like it would be enough for a point, but Cardiff substitute Hoilett won it two minutes from time.

Cardiff gave a first league start since December 2017 to Lee Tomlin as one of four changes from their 3-0 hammering at Reading on Sunday.

Huddersfield made three of their own, but it was their opponents who started quickly as winger Josh Murphy had a curled effort tipped over by Kamil Grabara.

Gavin Whyte then had a shot deflected wide before Robert Glatzel missed a sitter.

Tomlin's ball found Cardiff's £5.5million summer arrival Glatzel, who looked like he thought he was offside, but the flag stayed down and he somehow fired over with the goal gaping.

At the other end, Rajiv Van La Parra found the side netting after being played in by Pritchard.

As Reading had done, Huddersfield bypassed Cardiff's press with ease and, after Karlan Grant made a fool of Sean Morrison, Jonathan Hogg forced Alex Smithies into a fine save.

But Cardiff built up a head of steam before the break and finally broke the deadlock when Aden Flint's knockdown fell to Ralls who hit the net with his weaker right foot in the 42nd minute.

Glatzel and Joe Bennett came close to doubling the Cardiff lead before the half-time whistle.

Huddersfield levelled the game up at the start of the second half as Cardiff allowed Chalobah too much space on the edge of the box. It proved costly as the former Ipswich man found the bottom corner with Smithies helpless.

Chalobah had been one of the best players on the pitch until that point and after his strike Huddersfield held firm in the wake of a physical Cardiff assault.

Glatzel continued his one-man mission to grab a goal in the final quarter, but couldn't come up with the goods despite being presented with a series of chances.

Murphy was wiped out in the air by Tommy Elphick on the edge of the Cardiff box and substitute Omar Bogle hit the crossbar.

It looked as though it would sum up a night of frustration for Neil Warnock's men, but Hoilett latched onto Murphy's pass and struck a deflected winner in the 88th minute.

QPR 1-3 Swansea

Bersant Celina celebrates his goal against QPR
Bersant Celina celebrates his goal against QPR

Swansea won 3-1 at QPR to continue their excellent start under new boss Steve Cooper.

Borja Baston's 70th-minute penalty put them back in front soon after Jordan Hugill's equaliser and Sam Surridge rubber-stamped the victory by nodding in Andre Ayew's cross from close range 10 minutes later.

Borja netted from the spot after Yoann Barbet tripped Jordon Carrick, just three minutes after Hugill had cancelled out Bersant Celina's opener.

Hugill headed Ilias Chair's right-wing cross into the far corner of the net only for Rangers to disintegrate.

Conceding goals against the run of play has been a problem for them under their new manager Mark Warburton and they were guilty of doing so again.

They were on the front foot in the first half when undone by a Swans counter-attack on 29 minutes, with Ayew playing in Celina, who sprinted towards goal and slotted past keeper Joe Lumley.

Luke Amos, who missed most of last season with a knee injury, went off before play restarted with what looked like a knee problem.

Rangers' on-loan Tottenham midfielder sank to the ground as Swansea celebrated their goal and he was eventually replaced by Josh Scowen, although he did walk from the pitch unaided.

Celina's goal came after a promising start by Rangers in which Ebere Eze and Hugill went close to putting them ahead in spectacular fashion.

Eze evaded a couple of challenges and saw his low shot, which was heading towards the bottom corner, tipped away by keeper Freddie Woodman.

A corner routine then led to Hugill almost opening the scoring.

The striker peeled away towards the penalty spot and collected Ryan Manning's delivery on his chest before sending a crisp volley narrowly over the bar.

Having hit their opponents with a sucker punch, Swansea had to absorb more pressure after the interval as Rangers searched for an equaliser.

Todd Kane's intended cross bounced off the top of the bar and Scowen's half-volley flashed wide before substitutes Marc Pugh and Chair combined to almost bring the home side level.

Pugh did well on the left and pulled the back back for Chair, whose shot was blocked by Woodman at point-blank range.

Rangers finally got the breakthrough they deserved when Hugill got his second goal since making a season-long loan move from West Ham.

But Barbet's silly challenge led to Swansea quickly regaining the lead and Surridge's close-range finish meant there was no way back for Warburton's team.

West Brom 1-1 Reading

Kenneth Zohore's late penalty rescued a point for West Brom after Reading's Ovie Ejaria went from hero to zero.

Liverpool loanee's Ejaria's stunner looked to have given the Royals victory only for him to concede a late penalty to allow Zohore to earn a 1-1 draw.

Zohore stepped off the bench to score his first Baggies goal but Albion boss Slaven Bilic is still looking for his first win at The Hawthorns since his summer appointment.

Charlie Austin was thwarted by Royals goalkeeper Rafael Cabral and Grady Diangana fired over but Albion's home frustrations continued.

The Baggies, who now sit sixth in the Sky Bet Championship, were looking to resolve their home issue after failure to beat Millwall in the league and cup.

Darnell Furlong wanted an early penalty after he appeared to be clipped by Omar Richards but his appeals were waved away.

But despite their bright start Baggies goalkeeper Sam Johnstone made the first save when he beat away John Swift's 10th minute free kick.

Reading wrestled a degree of control back after the hosts threatened to overwhelm them as the game evened out.

Matt Phillips drilled well wide after 23 minutes and Ejaria's tame effort was gathered by Johnstone.

Midfielder Ejaria was impressing and he forced Johnstone into a smart stop with an angled effort from close range.

Albion continued to get joy down Reading's right but the final ball eluded the otherwise lively Phillips.

The visitors remained more assured in possession and began the second half on the front foot without testing Johnstone.

George Puscas, who scored twice in the 3-0 win over Cardiff on Saturday, sliced well wide but it was the closest the Royals came early on.

They were indebted to Cabral after 55 minutes when his fine stop kept the scores level.

Furlong wriggled free on the right and his low cross found Austin but Cabral stuck out a leg to save his close-range effort.

Albion had begun to ramp up the pressure and wanted a penalty when Filip Krovinovic went down under Andy Yiadom's challenge only for referee Peter Bankes to ignore their pleas.

Diangana then drove over and Reading responded by taking the lead with 19 minutes remaining.

Ejaria had been the visitors' best player and he deservedly grabbed a goal when he was given too much time on the edge of the area to drill into the top corner.

Albion tried to fight back and Zohore's shot was brilliantly blocked by Liam Moore before the substitute fired at Cabral.

But the striker was not going to be denied a leveller from the penalty spot with two minutes left after Ejaria's rash tackle on Krovinovic.

Charlton 1-1 Nottingham Forest

Lyle Taylor's fourth goal in as many games was not enough for a Charlton victory as a late Albert Adomah equaliser earned Nottingham Forest a point from a 1-1 draw.

Taylor had scored in each of the Addicks' first three Sky Bet Championship games and he added a fourth after 18 minutes at The Valley.

The goal came at the end of a move involving 22 passes when Taylor headed Charlton in front but Forest proved resilient and earned a point as Adomah pounced on a corner to shoot home from close range late on.

Charlton started the game on the front foot and Jonathan Leko's shot came back off the post just two minutes in.

Four minutes later the home side went close again as Aro Muric kept out a shot from Conor Gallagher before Michael Dawson got in the way of an effort by Leko from the rebound.

But there was no stopping Charlton after 18 minutes as Taylor headed in from a Leko cross following a flowing move by the home side.

Forest tried to hit back but Alfa Semedo curled over following a cross by Matty Cash.

Ten minutes before the break Josh Cullen played a one-two with Erhun Oztumer before his effort was cleared by Muric.

Forest's Lewis Grabban looked set to draw his side level in stoppage time at the end of the first half but Tom Lockyer's block denied him from close range.

Charlton had the first opening of the second half but Leko scooped over from 12 yards after Taylor did well to cut the ball back.

But Forest responded with a period of pressure which paid off after 78 minutes as Adomah struck the equaliser.

A corner into the Charlton area saw the ball bounce off a defender's leg before Adomah fired home.

Both sides had late chances to snatch a winner but Jonny Williams saw his deep cross beat Muric and drop just past the post before Forest's Tiago Silva hit a dipping long-range volley which cleared the bar.
