Rooney odds-on for England role
Sky Bet make Wayne Rooney the odds-on favourite to take over from Steven Gerrard as England captain following confirmation of the Liverpool midfielder’s international retirement on Monday.

Rooney is priced up at 1/3 to be the next Three Lions captain, although plenty of calls were made for the 28-year-old to be dropped during England’s unsuccessful World Cup campaign.
Gary Cahill is growing in stature on the international stage and is the 16/5 second favourite, while goalkeeper Joe Hart is third in the pecking order at 6/1.
Sky Bet’s Dale Tempest said: "Wayne Rooney is the obvious choice for Roy Hodgson to make, but Cahill is the biggest loser in our book, so it’s clear who our punters reckon should get the armband.
"Even Hart has attracted more stakes than Rooney, but we’re unconvinced that Hodgson will spring a surprise by overlooking the forward, he’s our favourite."
