The Bayern Munich midfielder struck 10 minutes into the second half to seal his side's progression to the last 16 as Group G winners with seven points from their three games.

Muller has now netted nine goals in as many World Cup appearances and will surely be key to Germany's hopes of glory.

Argentina talisman Messi is 9/4 favourite while Brazil star Neymar is 5/2.

Germany remain unchanged at 4/1 second favourites alongside Argentina to lift the trophy for the first time since 1990 just behind Brazil at 3/1.

Despite the defeat, the USA also progressed as runners-up on goal difference ahead of Portugal, who beat Ghana 2-1, and they are now 80/1 to become world champions.

Germany will next meet Algeria, who reached the knockout stages of the World Cup for the first time in their history after a 2-2 draw with Russia and the African side are now 200/1 to go all the way.

Group H winners Belgium, 20/1, beat South Korea for their third straight victory and will next face USA.
