Substitute Javier Hernandez scored the decisive goal which has brought United's price in to match bitter rivals Manchester City, who beat Swansea 1-0 on Saturday.
Leaders Chelsea still have a one-point advantage over both Manchester clubs and are now out to 11/4 (from 5/2) to win their fourth Premier League crown, with Arsenal 16/1 after picking up three points against QPR.
Sky Bet football trader Chris Spicer said: "Fergie is certainly a master when it comes to crunch matches in the title race and yet again he got his United team over the line at Stamford Bridge.
"Despite their defensive frailties showing again, they are considered as likely to win the title as stuttering City."
He added: "Chelsea are out to 11/4, but they were unlucky and still look genuine contenders, although the suspensions for Fernando Torres and Branislav Ivanovic could impact their chances against United in the League Cup."
