Emanuelson was on hand to tap home the rebound from close range after 67 minutes when a shot from Stephan El Shaarawy was saved by Petr Cech.

Chelsea's best chance came early in the game but when Lampard's delivery was headed back across goal by Branislav Ivanovic the loose ball was fired over the bar by John Terry who slipped just as he was about to shoot.

Despite the defeat at least manager Roberto Di Matteo got to see summer signings Eden Hazard and Marko Marin in action for the Blues on the latest leg of their tour of the United States.

Ryan Taylor's free-kick helped Newcastle clinch pre-season silverware as they beat Portuguese side Braga 2-1 to win the Algarve Cup.

Demba Ba had given the Magpies the lead, prodding home the rebound after seeing his penalty saved, before Ruben Amorim equalised for Braga.

But Taylor won the trophy for Alan Pardew's men when he curled home a delightful 25-yard free-kick past the helpless Beto.

Colin Kazim-Richards and Sam Baldock scored two goals in the space of three minutes to earn West Ham a 2-2 draw with German second division side Energie Cottbus in a friendly match at the Stadion der Freundschaft.

The hosts took the lead in the eighth minute after Daniel Adlung broke down the left and curled in a shot that slipped through goalkeeper Stephen Henderson's grasp and into the net.

The home side added to their lead on 42 minutes when Adlung scored his second of the match with a 20-yard shot that nestled into the bottom corner.

But West Ham got back in the game on 77 minutes as Kazim-Richards volleyed home from the edge of the area and they pulled level just two minutes later with a looping Baldock header.

Jonathan Walters scored a first-half winner as Stoke overcame Orlando City 1-0 at the Citrus Bowl in Florida on Saturday.

The Republic of Ireland striker crashed a volley past Miguel Gallardo from a Peter Crouch knock-down shortly before the break.

Stoke had Whelan dismissed after two quick bookings for a foul on Rodrigo Lopez and a scuffle with former Potters player James O'Connor.

St Mirren were pegged back by a superb solo goal from George Miller as npower League Two outfit Accrington salvaged a 1-1 draw at the Crown Ground.

Former Burnley striker Steven Thompson had put the Buddies in front in the 74th minute when he got in front of his man to turn in Jack Smith's cross.

Hull secured a third win from their fourth pre-season friendly with a 1-0 success at Rochdale.

Midfielder Robert Koren fired the only goal midway through the first half from long range.
