Sky Sports Fantasy Football scout Tim Clement looks at which players are defying their modest price tags.

Stevan Jovetic: Good start to the season for Manchester City
Stevan Jovetic: Good start to the season for Manchester City

Stevan Jovetic - £7.9million

Jovetic is the cheapest of City’s attacking options by some distance and, if he can retain his starting berth, could prove to be the bargain of the season. The Montenegro striker has seized his opportunity to fill in while Sergio Aguero regains his fitness, bagging a brace and the Sky Sports MOTM award to rack up a gameweek high of 17 points. The big question is, with Aguero scoring in both of his substitute appearances and Edin Dzeko a more natural line leader, whether Jovetic can hold on to his starting berth. The reality is that Jovetic will have to keep delivering on a prolific basis if he is to clock up enough minutes to make him real value for Fantasy bosses but for this weekend he looks a fine pick, with City considered Sky Bet’s biggest favourites as Stoke visit.

Steven Naismith - £7million

Naismith is another player defying his modest price tag, netting twice in his first two games of the season to rack up 14 points. The 27-year-old is also making the most of his chance, prevailing in a position which might otherwise have been taken up by Ross Barkley, working in a central role behind Romelu Lukaku. The Belgium striker’s physical presence is something his team-mates should feed off and Naismith is reaping the rewards.

Alan Hutton - £3.8million

I would have opened myself up to a fair bit of ridicule if I’d mentioned Hutton in one of my pre-season players to watch pieces – but I wish I had. The right-back has excelled since being given another chance by Paul Lambert, helping Aston Villa start the season with back-to-back clean sheets and being rewarded for his performance against Newcastle with a MOTM bonus. At just £3.8m, Hutton is just £0.3m more expensive than the cheapest player in the game, while he has a good chance of defying that modest price tag again with another clean sheet when Hull, who are still desperately looking to add to their attacking options, visit on Sunday.

Paul Dummett - £4.5million

Left-back Dummett is another book-balancing option and should benefit from being part of a much more assured looking Newcastle side. Dummett, who costs £1.2m less than the Magpies other starting defenders, has seized his opportunity to fill in for the injured Davide Santon, who has once again been linked with a move away from St James’ Park. With Santon ruled out for some while still, Dummett will have the chance to add to the seven points collected in last weekend’s 0-0 draw with Villa, when Crystal Palace this weekend.

Erik Lamela - £6.9million

Lamela is one player that was covered in the pre-season ‘Bargain picks’ piece and is showing signs of developing into the player Tottenham fans thought they were getting when the club paid £32m for his services. The Argentine winger assisted two of Spurs’ goals in their 4-0 hammering of QPR last Sunday, with his performance acknowledged with the MOTM award. That should give him far more confidence in front of goal which, for the 7.6 per cent of Fantasy bosses that have recruited him, can only be good news. Lamela netted 15 times in his final season in Serie A and would be value for money if he can manage half that tally and continue to provide plenty of assists for Spurs. While they face tough opponents in Liverpool on Super Sunday, the Reds are far from watertight at the back and have made a shaky start to the season.
