Louis van Gaal's first competitive game in charge saw him side slump to a 2-1 defeat to Swansea at Old Trafford, which saw them eased in the outright market.

Wins for Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City followed, and come 1830 BST on Sunday evening United were fifth in the betting at 8/1 having been 9/2 before the season began.

Arsenal's victory came courtesy of a late Aaron Ramsey strike and they're into 9/2, while Liverpool were trimmed a point to 10/1 following a hard-fought win against Southampton.

City were the only ones to cover a one-goal handicap in beating Newcastle 2-0 thanks to goals from David Silva and Sergio Aguero, and they remain second-favourites at 9/4.

Chelsea hardened to a general 7/4 without playing, with their first game coming at Turf Moor on Monday night against promoted Burnley.

The other market which saw action over the weekend was the Golden Boot betting, with Aguero into 9/2 and Daniel Sturridge just 5/1 after both started the season in fine fashion.
