Oxlade-Chamberlain missed England's 2-1 defeat to Italy with a knee injury he suffered in the penultimate warm-up game against Ecuador in Miami.

The Arsenal midfielder feared his World Cup dreams had been dashed by the injury, but he has been making good progress in his rehabilitation.

Oxlade-Chamberlain trained with his team-mates at England's Rio base on Monday and could be in the frame to play in Thursday's crunch clash against Uruguay in Sao Paulo.

Whenever he returns, Sturridge is sure his England team-mate will make a big impact.

"Ox is an extremely talented football, really quick and agile," the Liverpool and England frontman said.

"The way he goes about his business is a joy to watch. It's surprised me how good he is, seeing him close up.

"I didn't realise how good he is. I think he'll be a great addition, if he's not fit for this one then for the next one."

Danny Welbeck also suffered an injury scare in the build-up to the Italy game when he limped out of training with a slight groin strain.

The Manchester United forward again made a quick recovery and went on to impress against the Italians in Manaus.

Welbeck, who is expected to start against Uruguay in Sao Paulo, was always confident of making a speedy recovery.

"I didn't think I'd miss the tournament," he said.

"I stayed positive and the medical team are 24/7, top-notch, and do everything to help us."

England fly to Sao Paulo on Wednesday ahead of the Group D match in the Itaquerao Stadium.
