The 54-year-old German took charge of the Andalusian team on a five-year deal last June, but results have been inconsistent this season and they lie 13th in the Primera Division table ahead of their final match against Levante.

Speculation has been growing in recent days over Schuster's future, amid reports of conflicts with players and the club being linked with Barcelona coach Gerardo Martino.

On Thursday, Schuster confirmed he will not be in charge next season, although he insisted it was not his decision to leave.

"Yesterday I was told I would not be staying on, but it was not a big surprise because I suspected this would happen," he told a press conference.

"I'm leaving very happy because we have done our job and everything is okay. I have to accept and respect that decision.

"I have not been told the reasons why I won't be staying on but that doesn't matter. I tried my hardest but the club has an important responsibility and it's something I have to accept

"I disagree with the decision though, because I I think I could have done the job, knowing the difficulties."
