Gareth Friel previews this weekend's action in the Scottish Premiership and fancies St Johnstone to beat Motherwell.

Motherwell have hit a dip in form at just about the worst time of the season. Stuart McCall has been tipped by many as a contender for manager of the year but his side have taken just four points from their last five games and their chances of finishing second are looking slim.

Indeed, their thumping at Dundee United last week means finishing in the top three is far from certain having looked guaranteed for the majority of the season.

Scottish Cup finalists St Johnstone are on a fine run. Not so long ago they were battling with Hibs for the top six, now they are just a point behind Inverness and five behind Dundee United who sit fourth.

Tommy Wright's men have won eight of their last 12 games, including a 2-1 win over Aberdeen that took them to their first Scottish Cup final.

Given current form, the visitors look a cracking bet at 11/4. 'Well are strong at home though and have won six of their last nine at Fir Park.

However, they suffered a dismal defeat to relegation strugglers Kilmarnock prior to a battling 3-3 draw against Celtic so small stakes on an away win looks the best bet here.

If 'Well are to slip up, Dundee United should be able to take advantage against Inverness.

Jackie McNamara's side, as already mentioned, were 5-1 winners last week - the 16th time in their 22 wins that both teams have scored.

In nine of their last 10 victories a United win and both teams to score bet would have come up trumps and it's worth backing that at 7/2 on Saturday.

Caley Thistle have struggled for goals in recent times but this is their last chance to keep their challenge for fourth place alive and I fancy them to contribute.
