Scunthorpe moved top of Sky Bet League 2 despite conceding a late equaliser at home to Bury.
Danny Rose scored in the last minute as the Shakers snatched 2-2 draw at Glanford Park but Rochdale's loss at Mansfield meant the Iron, unbeaten in 26 games, still hit the summit.
Paddy Madden put Scunthorpe ahead after 62 minutes but Tom Soares found a quick equaliser.
Paul Hayes fired home a penalty rebound after his spot-kick was saved to restore the lead but Rose had the final say late on.
Rochdale conceded three times in the final 18 minutes to crash 3-0 at Mansfield. Martin Riley, Matt Rhead and Ryan Tafazolli were on the mark for the Stags.

Chesterfield opened up a five-point advantage over the sides outside the promotion places with a 2-1 win at Hartlepool. Liam Cooper and Eoin Doyle were on target after Luke James opened the scoring for Pools.
Fleetwood's hopes of catching the Spireites took a knock as they had to settle for a 2-2 draw at home to Morecambe.
Iain Hume scored their equaliser in the 85th minute after an own goal from Nathan Pond had put Morecambe in sight of victory. Antoni Sarcevic had given Fleetwood an early lead but Mark Hughes replied.
Fifth-placed Burton slipped up as they lost 1-0 to a John Marquis goal at relegation-threatened Northampton.
The battle for the two other play-off places is tight with Southend, Oxford and York separated by just a point.
Oxford moved above York into play-off zone as they won 2-0 at 10-man Plymouth with goals from Dave Kitson and James Constable.
The Pilgrims, who are now four points off the play-offs, had Maxime Blanchard sent off.
Southend went down 1-0 at home to AFC Wimbledon. Jack Midson scored the only goal from the penalty spot.
York conceded a last-minute equaliser to Shay McCartan as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Accrington Stanley at Bootham Crescent. Michael Coulson's penalty had given them the lead.
At the bottom, Torquay staved off relegation for a bit longer as they won 2-1 at Bristol Rovers after goals from Shaquile Coulthirst and Lee Mansell. Danny Woodards pulled one back for Rovers late on.
Wycombe are out of the relegation zone only on goal difference ahead of Northampton after losing 2-0 at Newport, for whom Christian Jolley and Chris Zebroski scored in the second half.
Portsmouth won 4-1 at Dagenham & Redbridge with two goals from Michael Drennan and further efforts from Danny Hollands and Jed Wallace.
Exeter and Cheltenham played out a 1-1 draw at St James' Park. Jordan Moore-Taylor's early opener for the Grecians was cancelled out by Byron Harrison.
