Ajax's title defence received another boost as they won 2-1 at Feyenoord to go eight points clear at the top of the Eredivisie table.

With closest rivals FC Twente held to a 1-1 draw at FC Utrecht, the Amsterdammers were able to move further ahead.

Goals from Kolbeinn Sigthorsson and Joel Veltman engineered a comeback win for Ajax after Graziano Pelle had sent Feyenoord ahead on 30 minutes.

Ajax were dumped out of the Europa League 6-1 on aggregate by Red Bull Salzburg in midweek, but appear well on course domestically as Twente tripped up.

Quincy Promes had given Twente an 18th-minute lead but a driving run and left-foot finish from Australia winger Tommy Oar shortly after half-time levelled matters.

Relegation-threatened RKC Waalwijk were thrashed 4-0 at AZ Alkmaar.

Jeffrey Gouweleeuw and Nick Viergever scored in the opening 20 minutes before a second-half Steven Berghuis double.

Cambuur Leeuwarden edged four points above the relegation play-off places with a 1-1 draw at FC Groningen.

Elvis Manu's 77th-minute penalty earned the visitors a point after Tjaronn Chery (5) netted first.

On Saturday, Vitesse claimed a 3-0 victory over bottom side Roda JC .

Mike Havenaar struck a brace for Vitesse with his first coming after 14 minutes before Marko Vejinovic doubled their advantage and Havenaar added his second deep into the second half.

PSV Eindhoven remain hot on the heels of fourth-placed Feyenoord after claiming a 3-2 comeback victory at Go Ahead Eagles.

Jarchinio Antonia put the home side ahead in the opening minute of the game before Erik Falkenburg made it 2-0 after 25 minutes.

But Memphis Depay, Jurgen Locadia and Bryan Ruiz scored a second-half goal apiece to steal the points.

Struggling NEC Nijmegen fought back to record a 3-3 draw away to PEC Zwolle.

Guyon Fernandez opened the scoring early on for PEC and Mateusz Klich doubled their lead as the match approached the half-hour mark. But Soren Rieks and Michael Higdon struck back either side of half time to make it 2-2.

Joost Broerse put the home side in front again midway through the second half but Rieks added his second with 20 minutes to go to earn a point for NEC.

ADO Den Haag remain 15th after recording a 1-1 draw at home to NAC as Roland Alberg's second-half effort cancelled out Rydell Poepon's opener for the visitors, who remain 10th.

In-form Iceland international Alfred Finnbogason was again on the mark with a second-half strike that earned Heerenveen a 2-1 comeback victory at Heracles on Friday.

Heracles took a 26th-minute lead through Oussama Tannane but Marten de Roon had Heerenveen level within 10 minutes and then Finnbogason, the Eredivisie's top scorer, slotted home a 49th-minute winner for his 22nd league goal of the season.
