Kolbeinn Sigthorsson scored a late winner as Ajax beat FC Groningen 2-1 to go four points clear at the top of the Eredivisie.

The Icelandic striker netted with seven minutes to go at the Amsterdam ArenA to tie up three points for the leaders.

Lasse Schone's 28th-minute penalty had edged Ajax ahead, before Filip Kostic equalised in the 41st minute.

Sigthorsson's decisive effort widened the gap between Ajax and FC Twente, although the second-placed side have a game in hand.

PEC Zwolle took advantage of FC Utrecht losing Adam Sarota to a second-half red card as they came from behind to register a 2-1 victory at the Stadion Galgenwaard.

Hosts Utrecht led from the 24th minute, when Juan Agudelo, on loan from Stoke, netted the opening goal.

They were without Sarota from the 58th minute, however, and Zwolle substitutes Denis Mahmudov and Fred Benson turned the match around.

Mahmudov levelled in the 74th minute and Benson scored the winner three minutes later.
