Alan Pardew is hopeful that Newcastle United will make good use of the January transfer window once again and says he is working well with Joe Kinnear and Graham Carr.

Kinnear's appointment as the director of football at St James' Park shocked fans in the summer and came after a season when Newcastle had to battle to avoid relegation, but they have bounced back impressively this term.

Saturday's 3-0 victory away to Crystal Palace left the Magpies in sixth place and very much in the hunt for a European place, especially with the transfer window reopening in the New Year.

Newcastle have recruited well in the winter for the past two seasons and Pardew insists plans are in place to make sure they do not miss out on any important signings.

"We're in a good place as a club," Pardew said in The Guardian. "I know we've had some strange opinions about us from outside but we're working well together.

"The owner is really pleased, I'm really pleased and, more importantly, the players are really pleased because if they are not you can't get those sort of performances."

"The transfer window is open soon and that might be an opportunity for us to galvanise ourselves. I haven't really talked too much about the finance available but we've talked about players.

"We're making sure that we don't miss what might be a key signing. You look at the last two January windows, we've done good business.

"We brought in Papiss [Cisse] two years ago and that pushed us on and last year, in an emergency really, we had to take four or five, which we didn't really want to do but it still worked out well for us.

"So [the chief scout] Graham Carr, Joe, myself and the owner are very much on the ball for this January window. That is really the committee for transfers.

"We sit down and discuss and make sure we make the right decision for the club. The finance comes into that, of course, but so does selection of what I need.

"With Joe's knowledge of football he knows that the manager needs certain things and that has helped, in my opinion. I don't really want to say any more than that but I think that gives you a little bit of insight."
