Sky Bet's football punters received a timely boost when the five best-backed teams won on Saturday afternoon.

Liverpool kicked things off with a ready 3-1 victory over Cardiff, in which Luis Suarez further boosted his Golden Boot credentials with a brace.

The Uruguayan now has 19 for the season which puts him six clear of the sidelined Sergio Aguero, and he's now just 1/6 to end the season as the division's leading scorer.

Liverpool meanwhile were cut to 5/1 for the Premier League title, and are now just 4/7 to secure a return to the Champions League with a top-four finish.

Their victory coupled with that of Celtic in the Scottish Premiership meant most multiples rolled on to the 3pm kick-offs, with Manchester City, Manchester United, Newcastle and Derby completing a fine afternoon for punters - although it could've been worse for the layers.

Sky Bet's Joe Petyt said: "Things were looking a bit scary for long parts of the afternoon with all the well-fancied teams winning and a few others only a goal away from adding to our misery.

"Luckily in the end some draws in the Premier League and Championship came to our rescue."

City are now just 11/10 in the outright betting following their 4-2 victory over Fulham, while United's resurgence continued with a 3-1 win over West Ham but they can still be backed at 16/1 to defend their Premier League title.

Newcastle's 3-0 win at Crystal Palace saw them cut to 33/1 for the top-four and 8/1 for the top-six, while Palace are back as extremely short-priced favourites for relegation at 1/4.

Sunderland's 0-0 draw with Norwich saw them cut to 8/15, with Fulham next in the betting at 11/10 ahead of 5/2 chances Cardiff.
