Oldham booked another clash with Liverpool at Anfield next month as they ended the challenge of Mansfield and won the second-round replay 4-1.
The Stags had also played Liverpool in last season's competition and were hoping for another dose of the big time.
Matteo Lanzon, Danny Philliskirk, Jonson Clarke-Harris and Adam Rooney scored Oldham's goals after Ross Dyer had put Mansfield ahead.
The Stags also saw defender John Dempster dismissed.
Burton edged to a 1-0 win over Fleetwood to clinch a trip to Championship side Bournemouth.
A tight game was decided by Billy Kee's fourth goal in as many games in the 24th minute.
Leon Clarke netted twice as Coventry beat Hartlepool to book a clash at Barnsley from the Championship.
Jack Baldwin had scored a late leveller for Hartlepool before Clarke bagged the winner in injury-time.
