Celtic have retained the Clydesdale Bank Premier League title with a 4-1 victory over Inverness at Celtic Park.

After a goalless hour, Gary Hooper (61) and Joe Ledley (66) kick-started the kind of joyous atmosphere Neil Lennon had called for ahead of the game, and Hooper's party-piece third on 73 minutes added lustre to the scoreline.

Georgios Samaras smashed a late fourth, and the home support sang on even as Aaron Doran scored a consolation for Terry Butcher's side in injury-time.

High in the stands the Hoops' suspended manager savoured a second straight title success sitting among supporters whose thoughts now turn to Hampden Park next month and the prospect of a first domestic double for six years.

Ross County captain Richard Brittain scored a double at McDiarmid Park to secure a 2-2 draw against St Johnstone.

Brittain, who has been trying to persuade Saints to tear up the pre-contract agreement he signed with the Perth club in January, levelled with expertly-taken penalties 14 minutes from the start and end of the game.

Steven MacLean and Murray Davidson both headed Saints in front but the draw only really favoured Motherwell and Inverness, who occupy the two European places on offer behind champions Celtic.

Motherwell are now one win away from securing a Europa League spot while Caley Thistle have a four-point lead over St Johnstone with County a point further behind.
