Hitzfeld punished by FIFA

Switzerland manager Ottmar Hitzfeld has been banned from the touchline for two matches by FIFA's disciplinary committee.

The German was found guilty of a breach of the world governing body's disciplinary code during a World Cup qualifier against Norway last month.

Hitzfeld will miss consecutive qualifiers against Cyprus and has also been ordered to pay a total of 8,000 Swiss francs (£5,343) in fines and costs.

A FIFA statement read: "The FIFA disciplinary committee decided today to suspend Switzerland's national team coach Ottmar Hitzfeld for two official matches after he was considered to have breached article 57 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code (offensive behaviour and fair play) during the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil qualifier against Norway on 12 October 2012.

"Furthermore, Hitzfeld has been ordered to pay a fine of 7,000 Swiss Francs and will also have to bear the costs of the proceedings of 1,000 Swiss Francs."
